Where do you get Garand rear sights?

To ensure that yer #### don't fall off (inside joke) you need USGI rear sights... NOT !! If you are not competing with iron sights, just leave the Kommie sights on there. Most of you '14 lovers are scoping your M14's. Better value for the money.

If you need to replace them, try aacollectibles (CGNutter) on our board. He is also a sponsoring dealer. Not sure of any other reliable sources right now.

Hope this helps,
Barney

Scoping an M14? SCOPING?!?!

Barney, sorry to ask you to repeat yourself since you are a man of few words :p , but I can't find your post where you described which parts from the Norc rear sight should be replaced with USGI/Garand/National Match parts.

Would you please repeat your recommendations? I would still like to have at least one of my M305's shoot well with the iron sights.

Thanks!

When I replaced my 2 Norinco M14's with USGI sights, I found that ONLY the windage knob, elevation pinion knob needed to be replaced. The Chinese base was fine and worked with the USGI parts. The chinese aperture was a little off center (perfect to drill out and make a ghost ring). The kommie rear sight base is perfectly serviceable with the USGI parts, but I swapped ALL the parts out and gave them away.

Sharkson... does that help you out ?

Cheers,
Barney

Really?. I heard the windage knob threads are differnt from USGI to Commie.
Making the commie base incompatble with the USGI parts. Is that not true then?

Muchos gracias! I was hoping it would be less than the full shot. The full Springfield M1A Match Sight kit is something north of about $200. Anybody know if this includes a smaller peep sight than the stock Norc?

Thanks! :bigHug:

YES the NM match aperture is much smaller than the issue'd size (about 0.080" or 80 thou). The NM sizes are 0.052" (that was my favorite size for my competitions).

Does one really need a NM sight kit ? ONLY if you are competing. That's an expensive proposition for LCV (look cool value) and for knob turning (USGI standard sights are cheaper).

Yes the commie base accomodates the USGI sight parts. I was surprised as heck to see that. Just like learning that the barrel threads on both Kommie recievers and USGI recievers are matching.

Life is good.

I keep seeing recommendations for them to improve Norinco M-14 rear sights, but where can I buy them? I think Marstar is out.

New ones on ebay for about 50 bucks

You have to watch the Ebay route, as shipping can ruin that bargain in a hurry. I've been getting hit duty on many items coming out of the US as well. Many M1 parts right now are listed from Italy and Greece. I wouldn't want to pay the shipping there.

Cost me 1 buck surface shipping, US mail. Never been hit by duty in my life and I do I all the time. Just send regular post from wherever in the world and it is cheap. Greece regular post takes 3 weeks, should be 5 bucks. If you're worried, just simply ask seller to mark the customs forms "used machine parts" "value $5.00" that will get it in every time. Been doing this for decades now with every kind of customs and expensive part known to man, you will never have a hassle with US mail surface, and it is dirt cheap.
