I’m looking for a barrel for a savage 99 rifle in 308, however, the only source I found was in the US and ITAR makes it impossible to get. What sources do you guys use for gun parts? It makes want to never get a classic gun made in the USA ever again compared to other places that don’t have such restrictions.

ITAR is everywhere .... "international" traffic in arms regulations. Any retailer in the US can mail some items in the first and or maybe second schedule (not sure) that includes things like stocks, grips, screws, springs etc-etc-etc the innocuous stuff. AS LONG as they have a certificate - which is easy $250 USD for them.... but not all will bother. Cartridge barrels can be sent - Green Mountain mails them up here ... but again, not all places want the hassle.

You will probably have to go through an importer.

the certificate may or not be only 250 bucks

but the federal manufacturers paperwork in order to EXPORT PARTS OR BARRELS OR ACTIONS was 2250 10 years ago

and for example hall actions missed a few years and then wanted to send 25 actions to Australia and 2 to Canada, for me and it was 2500 beans and we all paid an extra 150 bucks to get it done

the feds after a year allowed hall to export one last time without paying for the 6 years he missed

costs add up my friend

it depends which category and schedule the items are in ... i.e. you can't export an aircraft carrier or missile guidance system with the same certificate that you have for grip screws. (and yea - all that stuff is covered, tanks, chemical agents ... pretty much anything that can go bang!)
