Where do you store your bear gun on your boat.......

conservation officer said nothing would be done unless someone was in imminent danger

Hicks wanted the bears moved or killed but the conservation officer said nothing would be done unless someone was in imminent danger.

"They never did send an officer out and yesterday a bear, probably the same bear, took down this fellow," said Hicks.

"The whole situation is absolutely disgusting."

"This is the first major aggressive black-bear attack causing that kind of injury on Vancouver Island," said conservation officer Gord Hitchcock from Nanaimo.

Count the number of qualifying words in the CO's statement.

I would of thought that bears on a pier getting fed would qualify as "imminently dangerous." I wonder how many of the "black bears aren't dangerous" crowd learned something from the event? The fellow who suggested that the behavior was non-typical of Vancouver Island bears has apparently not.

i take my 1300 defender where ever i go.....i put 2 bucks for warning and 5 slugs for finishing in the tube, well i dont take it EVERYWHERE but you know what i mean:) poor bugger just wasnt prepared....atleast all he needed was some surgery and a new change of underwear......its better than a coffin

simple
buy a norinco or DA arms shotgun with 12.5" barrle
put on a S&J hardware single point sling and jumbo safety.
Add a blue force gear anaconda breechers sling, push the gun so its arounds to one side or maybe even behind you, never take it off.
Best $400 you will ever spend .

I keep mine in the storage compartment of my Lund Alaskan. Game Warden only asked that it be unloaded while in the boat. I even explained to him why I had it. It's nice to have the coach gun, loaded with 00 at the shore lunch.

No one knows why the bears appear to coming down more and more they ask........... cause no one is allowed to hunt them anymore ... thats why

Don't get hysterical, this is the first time this has happened on Vancouver Island, pretty amazing considering the behaviour of the recreational anglers and marina and public dock practices up and down both sides of the Island.

It's customary to leaves heads, guts and skeletons littering the bottom, which exposed at low tide leaves a tantalizing scent for any bear in the neighbourhood. Considering the population of black bears on the island, they're mostly well behaved. What about the one that picked up a carcass off the beach at the "cleaning station" and brought it into hotel in Port Hardy and proceeded to eat it on the carpet in front of the receptionist like a big black dog? What about the one in the bakery? Neither threatened anyone but was shot anyway as a human habituated bear.

Hicks is a blowhard, always was. He lives on the West Coast of Vancouver Island and wants the C.O. service to kill every bear there? Dream on.

There are plenty of bears hunted there by the way, we have generous spring and fall seasons here in B.C. and the Port Renfrew area is very popular with hunters from Vancouver Island and the mainland.

gotta be 'Bear Aware' and responsible for your actions. Don't create a situation that encourages bear/people interaction.

####, I see bears EVERYDAY...Some close, some far, some really close. Keep your head and you'll be fine. A 12g and tactical bear gaff isn't a bad thing when outta town anyway

Doing things like leaving trash, food etc causes early death by C.O to these blackies.
