Where/How much for a k31?

Ive found a k31 at a local store, looks alright to me but im no gunsmith. Price is $500, what do you folks think? is this a rare find to be snatched up or should I sit on the fence for a while longer? These are the last of a shipment which probably means the best rifles have been long picked over.



does anyone know if theres a canadian online dealer with good k31s in stock?
 
I got mine for <$300 shipped off the EE. In very good condition. '46 production with walnut stock. $50+0 is for the ex-police rifles that came with the TSE batch. You shouldn't have to pay that much for a decent K31 examples. Shop around, save tax.

Think id be getting what im paying for in the police one? Would there be any added value ie. less wear/better bore?
 
Wear in the bore, probably the same as Swiss soldiers took care of the bore well. The stock would be nicer on the police gun, but it's not worth an extra couple hundred in my opinion unless you want a collector's piece. The bayonet is nice too, but to be honest, it isn't really necessary for shooting, which is what I bought my rifle for. The dings you can fix in the stock or just leave as is. Doesn't affect the accuracy of the gun. What do you want the gun for?
 
There are still some listed at Down East Trading for $250. I got one there for that price and I'm happy with it. The ones they have left have the beech stocks.
 
Condition is everything, have a look at the better auction sites and the rise in prices as the condition of any type of weapon gets better.
For most people any good K-31 will do for shooting, but if you’re a serious collector, you but the best possible and upgrade later, if possible. Conditions, matching serial numbers, are all factors that make resale easier and more profitable.
For older weapons, condition is also a safety factor

Target shooting. I like the idea of an old bolt action with some history that is cool/fun to shoot. itll be well taken care of, probably wont do much to it cause i like the character.
