Could Someone fill me in why there is no brass cased bulk surpluses 7.62x51 m80 ball kind of suff in canada ? Don't we have a military and good connections around the world with other country's ... I would like to be able to buy a battle pack here and there to blast away and pick up the cases to reload I can't Evan find 1f military cases to reload ):

Now that 7.62x51 is only used as a MG round in most countries it isn't produced in nearly the volume it once was. Additionally most nations worldwide, ours included, won't release surplus munitions to markets where it could end up in civilian hands. Next, what little comes available goes almost exclusively to the USA, as it is a much bigger and more profitable market to serve. Finally Canadian laws on proof testing of ammo make it difficult to import to us.

Although there have been medium sized lots of surplus come into Canada on rare occasions (notably the Hirtenberger stuff 7 or 8 years ago), my impression is there really hasn't been a sizeable batch of affordable surplus ammo in Canada since the Spanish SB ammo dried up 20 years ago.

"...brass from the States..." Not without their export permit.
"...import some 7.62x51 brass..." Just use .308 Win brass.
The days of inexpensive surplus ammo are long gone. The Socialist F**ks allowed civil servants to decide what is legal to import and what is not. A great deal of foreign surplus ammo is being denied entry by NRCan(same bunch who decided you can't import AP or tracer ammo) due to the fairy tale that corrosive primers are bad for the environment. It's BS of the highest order, but Harper's gang still allows civil servants to make law by regulation.

Winchester white box makes a 7.62 nato marked brand , and i believe american eagle also makes a 7.62 nato load for the m14 . both of these should be importable , availability however might be another issue .

I recently got some Federal Ammunition in 7.62x51MM XM80C from gangon sports in oshawa, it was a case or a crate just in the normal 20 round boxes, this is only place Ive ever seen it sold tho.

Thanks for the heads up I just put in an order got the last of the lake city and some Barnaul to try at 98 cents a round all in for 100 rounds to try I couldn't ask for better , brass is 60 cents each for rem p and 25 cents a bullet for fmj it is cheaper than my handloads !

Years ago I surfed onto "The Rifle Company", and I go back to periodically. It is US-based, but in the 8 yrs it has been up, the arc of availability is clearly written. What was once widespread and cheap, is now paper thin and sporadic. Can't blame BO for this shortage, it started well before him. www rifle-company.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?t=431

There hasn't been nearly as much 7.62 NATO in Canada as in the States. The US commercial stuff is always the easiest to import, as per our federal government's regulations. There are spurts of Chinese ammo. Good luck!

oh no, Having read my first post on here I did make a typo, I said "it was a case or a crate just in the normal 20 round boxes," I meant to say it WAS NOT in a case or crate, it is in the usual 20 round boxes. I better clear that up so not to cause confusion.

Is there a way to import some 7.62x51 brass from the states ?

yes, you can leagaly bid on US surplus lots and securing 50 000 + cases will cost you like $500 plus $1600 shipping. The permits are easy to obtain as well,

the problem I ran into was this;

The auction contract give you 3 days to secure transport and remove the item from the base were it was sold (not a big deal), but the permits take weeks/ months to secure and require you having already one the bid to get...... so unless you can find somewere to store it states side while I waited for permitts.... your SOL.
My plan was to export a batch of about 60 000 cases, clean em up sell around 90% of them. Not only would I have like 5000 for personal use... selling them at 15c a piece I could pocket a tiddy sum.

I think the only real surplus 7.62 x 51 ammo I've seen recently is the Norinco stuff. I vaguely recall someone telling me it's overruns from contracts for the Phillipines or Singapore (the Phillipines might explain why there's surplus .45 ACP but not 9mm).

I gotta say I'm surprised militaries ever surplus ammo out at prices that must be at or below cost when they could just shoot it.

"...permits are easy to obtain..." Not for a non-US citizen.
You don't need 7.62 brass anyway. Load .308 brass. It's the same thing. Despite the nonsense you see on the internet.
