So duck season is almost upon us, and I was hoping you guys can help me out. I've wanted to get into duck hunting since I got my license, however I don't know where to start. I have a shotgun (semi and a backup pump gun), and I have a sit-on kayak that can be used for retrieval purposes. What I don't have is a good idea of where I can/can't hunt them within the GVRD. I know there is one place just south of Pitt Lake (Pitt Addington Marsh I think it is?) which is only open Weds/Sat/Sun or something like that... I have also seen some stuff online about Mud Bay Park and the Deas Island/Canoe pass area, however I am not sure how dated that info is...

So, anyone want to help out a newbie with some areas to explore in hopes of getting into some waterfowl? I'd love it if someone wanted to take me under their wing for a trip or two, but even a few pointers would be wonderful, as I am finding this whole hunting-in-the-city thing hard to get started with.

Thanks!

Those places you listed are still active. Two documents you need to research:

1. Fraser Valley hunting map https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/s...pecial-area-hunting-licence-2017-2018_4pg.pdf

2. The 2017/2018 Hunting Synopsis https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/s...-2018/hunting-trapping-synopsis-2016-2018.pdf

Both of these are primary documents for your education.

They will also tell you, that you need the following: 1. Your BC FWID hunting license 2. Federal Migratory Bird permit 3. Fraser Valley Hunting permit 4. Proof of Insurance.

With your kayak you'll be able to reach a lot of areas others can't. Hopefully you are safe and have proper vest and other life saving equipment, especially if you are by yourself. A lot of these areas are also reachable on foot.

I didn't get a range membership this year. What are my other options for insurance? $50 will get me a silvercore membership which includes 10mil coverage, is that my cheapest option?

Copy of my house insurance gets me mine.

Once ducks get going here I’d be willing to take you out, usually take a few newer hunters out each year for deer and/or ducks, I’m out in Mission usually hunt out Harrison way for ducks, I have a boat, I usually don’t start going hard for ducks till end on November though, shoot me a pm if your interested

You can join the BCWF as an individual direct member for $49.00 which includes insurance. You can save a buck!

That seems like a good option, I'd rather support BCWF than silver core. (nothing against silver core, took my PAL and challenged my CORE test with them, but I'm all for supporting conservation)
