Ok gents, I'm looking for some not too common ammo. I inherited a Carcano carbine that's been sitting in the same unfired state since WW2. It's in damn good shape, albeit a little dusty and grimy. I'm itching to fire the thing and see how she shoots.

The only problem is I can't find ammo. I have one craptacular box of about 15 rounds that came with the gun but they're in no shape to fire and I'd like to preserve them, anyway.:)

So guys, where can I get some 6.5 x 52 Carcano rounds? If that's indeed what this thing eats....
(I've already checked out SIR and Wholesale with no luck)

The carbine is actually a lot shorter than it looks. (about 2" shorter than my Mossberg .22)

(sorry some of the pics are monstrous. Couldn't figure out how to shrink em')

2 - 3 boxes of ammo are worth more then the gun. Norma should still be available. If your into reloading you'd be alot better off.

your options are either reloading or paying $40-50 a box for norma ammo (when you can find it).

accuracy might not be too good as supposedly the bore on these is .268 not the common .264 (6.5mm). hornady make the proper sized bullet that can be ordered.

i don't know enough to say, but some carcanos were also made in 7.35mm which i think is a reload only proposition.

I have one of these with the double trigger, set trigger set up. I have been warned by a very reliable source that if you do reload these keep the loads LIGHT. They have a tendency to shoot the bolt back in your face if you load it up too hot.

The graf brass will work better, the Norma stuff does not feed well as the rim is 15 thou to thick. Know this from experience. Higginson sells the .268" bullets and use either H 414 or WW 760 as extruded powders can cause large pressure fluctuations in this round. Was designed for slow ball powder.

Dave,

I feel your pain. You have the clips, so if you just want to shoot off a few rounds, shoot five or six of the old ammo you have, but be mindful that it's corrosive and will require a proper clean-up afterwards.

Or, I could ship you some non-corrosive ammo by Purolator or Canpar if you cover the shipping costs (a few bucks). You'll need to e-mail me your address, and a scanned copy of your POL or PAL and another piece of ID with your address on it.

If you want to shoot it regularly, you either need to reload yourself, or find someone local who will do it for you. The brass bullets and dies are not difficult to source.
