Where to buy .30 carbine surplus ammo in Canada

Yeah no luck with surplus. Lots of new factory ammo but quite exspensive. I stocked up a few years ago at a no time bad price

You also need to be careful when using surplus .30 carbine ammo as there is stuff out there that uses corrosive primers, most notably made by the French or Chinese. Anything made by the US has always used non-corrosive primers but sometimes it can be hard to tell as the Chinese use knock off head stamps. Even though it can be more expensive, I tend to stick to new manufacture ammo just to be safe.

Even before the panic prices weren't great. I just accepted it, found the best deal I could and bought as much as I could afford. Now I look at the prices and supply and I am glad I did. The surplus ammo available in Canada is pretty questionable. Some guys get a box of ammo that all goes bang and some get a box full of duds. We don't have the supply seen down south because that's where it's all funneled, unfortunately.

I remember a few years ago Marstar was selling mixed .30 carbine surplus dirt cheap, around 30 cents a round if i recall, but was in terrible condition, lots of duds. But it came in a steel ammo can at least, looks like its all long gone now.

Yup, and another unfortunate thing is it was all Berdan primed so pulling it for components wasn't much good.

I've got some of that .30-cal. It is crap! Some has caked powder. Some have some shake. Cases are very dirty. A handful of cases have 18 different headstamps. I bought it to salvage the bullets. I might pull the bullets, replace the powder, and reload the bullets. But, always listen to the shots and stop immediately if the ejection is different or the recoil feels soft. The bullet has probably stopped in the bore!

Yup had some. Now I got like 600 pulled bullets.

Alot of wet powder, alot of FTF, I had a squib, some no powder. There were frequent duds that you just racked the CH and carried on, or if it didnt fully chamber you just tap the CH forward. One day I had a squib, sounded no different than a round that fired. The gun jammed. Did the whole try and tapped the CH forward for the round to chamber, it didnt. Pulled back the CH and tried to chamber another. After that I decided to check. Yup a bullet stuck in the barrel.

I was up at the Gun Dealer and I was lucky to get some 30 carbine factory ammo for 15$ a box in the clearance section.

PMC made 30 carbine , I think they had a Contract
to make it for the Philippines and other Asian Countries
back in the late 1960's
Don't think they do it anymore
