Where to buy .40 +P

+P exists only for older calibers. When 9mm and .45ACP were invented the quality of metal was much lower in pistols. Now we have newer, stronger pistols that can handle hotter ammo but we can not just update the 9mm spec as the old guns could not handle the newer ammo. So in order to take avantage of newer, stronger guns the +P was invented. The .40S&W is a modern round from late 90's so there is no +P ammo for it as we have not had any major developments in metallurgy since.

I have a .40 carbine and I'm just trying to max it out. LOL, wish I could buy a 10mm carbine, but I'll have to stick with .40 S&W.

Dude,

The.40 S&W is a fairly high pressure round to begin with and little things like, oh, I don't know... overall length and bullet set-back... really drive pressure up fast - to the point where there are problems with case failure and damage to guns/hands/faces occurs.

Be very careful - there is no need to push the envelope here. A few years back there were lots of guys like you saying things like "I know what he manual says, but what is the real maximum for the .44 Mag??!!"

A few blown guns later and it seems to have settled down a bit.

Don't be "that" guy...

Is there even a .40 +P load out there? I think they call it 10mm... ;)

Seriously though, I've never seen any +P in 40. Always 38, 9mm or .45.

Neither have I, and IMHO there is no need for it anyway. want stiffer loads go to 10mm, as the cases are made to withstand the pressure.

I looked in my ammo stash and found a couple of boxes of Cor Bon .40S&W 135gr. JHP's that are labelled as +P on the box. As far as I know these are the only +P .40S&W loads out there, the 135gr. loads from Cor Bon and Triton.

These chrony 1346fps from my G22. Lots of recoil and flash.

Here are the pressure stats for various loads. Note that the pressure increase between 40 S&W and 10mm is only 2,500 psi. Not much really.
