Why would you want 5 rounders? I believe there is an exemption from the 5 round rule for Garands, no?

Because as far as I know, the exemption does not apply to Ontario hunting regs. Your semi must HOLD a max of 5rnds. So if I understand correctly, even if I load only 5 in an 8 round mag I am breaking Ont hunting regs.

For hunting, and hunting only, most provinces require you to use a 5 round capacity maximum in a high powered semi-auto rifle.

Even if it is a Garand.
So the exception applies more to range use, unless otherwise stated in the law.

no, thats because its mimicing the firearms law.

You see them on Ebay fairly often, and lots of US suppliers have them (as long as you can find one that'll ship to you); most of them are double-sided, so you can use them on one side as 5-rounders and on the other side as 2-rounders. You can also make your own single-shot "clip" (SLED) with a Dremel, like so: http://a308dsit.i8.com/sledpage.html

Why do people make up regs? This is the only mention of semi-auto magazine restrictions. It's from the 2006 Ontario Hunting Regulation (pg 21). Your Garand is specifically exempted in the Firearms Act. You're legal with 8 rounds.

You must plug a semi-automatic or repeating shotgun so that it will not hold more than a total of three shells in the chamber and magazine combined. Under the Criminal Code of Canada you cannot possess any clip/magazine that holds more than five shots for a semi-automatic centre fire rifle unless that clip/magazine has been specifically exempted pursuant to the Firearms Regulations.

Not all provinces mimic the firearms laws.

Saskatchewan could care less as long as its legal (non restricted)IAW federal law....so there are exceptions to the rule.

But I guess this is a moot point, because this is not what was asked in this thread.

5 Rouns enblocs

The 5 rounders are kind of nice for firing 5 shot groups for load testing though. I saw somewhere (can't remember where) in the US that makes a double sided clip that is 2 rounds on one side and a single shot sled on the other. I believe this is for match shooting of some type.

you can make them yourself from 8 rounders easily with a dremel. I made a few and they work just fine. You can also just dump 5 rounds in an 8 round enbloc and jam it in your M1

Like FMW sez. I have a couple 5 round clips just because that's usually the number I fire to make a grouping. Don't most of us?
I got mine at the Syracuse gun show. Probably one of the few firearms items left that we Canuckleheads can legally buy in the US.
