Looking to buy a decent trap machine, Any one know of any clubs upgrading ? Or know of any good place to start looking ? Kijiji has nothing atm.
I'm bored of my regular electric thrower. Looking for something that changes where it throws.

What sort of price range are you looking for?

How many clays capacity at a time?

Singles only or singles/doubles?

The prices I have seen vary from a few $100 to $20,000 ...

I should add that this is my Personal machine. I have loaned it out to clubs when their beomat or pat traps break down lol!!!

I use it in my backyard, or take it camping and hook to an inverter and batteries and solar, or run it off my genset. A lot of fun!!!!

Those old westerns are bulletproof and throw much nicer targets than todays machines.

Agreed! But they will not do the cool presentations a modern sporting clay trap will! They are not very portable(weigh a ton) and need 120vac.

That can be debated. I can adjust curl throw, impart more or less spin, change from a medium or soft rubber on the arm etc. I have yet to see anything from the 'Big 5' manufacturers that can keep up.

Granted some Pat Traps are pretty s'phisticated, but they are also pretty fragile. And one thing they do not do will is Bunker or Olympic Trap.

Aw hell, there are good machines out there. But I will keep my Winchester Western. I grant you it is heavy. But it also runs off batteries and a large inverter :)

One thing that is not debatable is their legendary durability. Buy once, cry once, and shoot forever.

Try Oshawa. I remember some new machines last year.

There are many different levels of machine depending on your budget and your application. Lawry's certainly has a good selection.

Our club has a Western Retro CS 270 carousel fitted to our vintage Western Trap - two boxes of birds capacity. There are lots of machines out there for the price of this set-up, but we are familiar with this old warhorse.

There are more modern machines capable of steeply angled throws for sporting clays targets. There are also lots of vintage machines sitting unused in Trap clubs around the country.

We just replaced the old Western machines at our skeet range. Someone was interested in purchasing the two working machines, the two that need repairs, and our parts, but I don't believe that a deal has been made yet.

What did you replace them with ?

We replaced them with some used GMV Superstar machines from a trap range that upgraded to new machines. We purchased the three used machines for the price of one new one. It's nice to not have to load the machines after every round of skeet, but it took a fair bit of work to get the new machines running properly. I still need to do some work to get the third machine ready to run.

Another thing to consider on ised machines is when they were last rebuilt. New bearings, bushings, arm rubber, droppers, heim joints, elevators, springs, sear, solenoids... you get the idea

When shopping for a used machine, there are a lot of them out there for sale that are not economical to repair.

Any idea what they are asking for them? I might be interested in both.

That wd100 looks perfect... I don't need wobble , but could be fun.
the wobble is a challenge. With the olympic arm and white flyer targets those suckers are moving!!! The kit has built in eccentrics in the wobble and can vary the up down speed. If you were in the Kootenay area, I would certainly give a demo.
One thing that I was impressed with was build quality. Ian reconditions all the machines he sells prior to fitting the autoloaders. So essentially the machine is brand new. Many many cases later, I am still happy with my purchase. I did purchase the voice call option, but to be honest, when gathered with the boys, the pickle is more fun. Slow pulls, fast pulls... endless entertainment.
