I have a first series woodsman (the Colt, not Norinco) and I can't find a source for magazines other than Brownell's who are out of stock :(

I did some searching and research and it doesn't look like the Norinco M93 mags work in the Colt :(

Anyone have any leads on a source other than Brownells?

I found someone in an old thread claim that a high standard model B mag works in the Woodsman - can anyone confirm? Have you actually run it in the gun, or just test fit it?

I would also like to replace the spring in the one original magazine that I have - I wonder if the one available spring for high standard will work in the colt mag? Probably worth a few bucks to find out......

I thought the m93 wags were a straight copy of the first series mags. You're certain on your source?

Other places to look for Colt mags: Western Gun Parts (Edmonton) and Numrich (USA).

I'd bet a small amount of someone else's money on the Wolff / High Standard mag springs being a good fit for your Colt mag. Like you said, you may as well try.

That was me and I can confirm that they work in both the 1st Model Woodsman and the Norinco (I have both)...

Thanks for the tips! Found one! The vendor can't tell me who manufactured it, hope it works. Seems like a gamble as from what I hear some of the second party mags work fine, some don't.

I think I will try and find a high standard B first, I bet they are a safer bet than an unknown.

Click on "woodsman FAQ" on the left. The norinco is NOT a 1st generation woodsman as some stuff on CGN has lead me to believe it is for sure the "newer" model that can handle HV ammo right out of the box.
Now if the mags are interchangeable? I have no idea.

From what I understand the norinco is what you describe. So I "should" be able to run the norinco m93 mags in my original colt. I wonder which are a safer bet: norinco mags or triple K or some other second party brand? The woodsmans seem to be mag sensitive....

i'm going to say NO the norinco mags will not work in your first series pistol, I don't want to he held liable, but read here maybe you can answer your own question

from the FAQ I linked

I bought a Woodsman magazine at a gun show, but it doesn't fit my Woodsman. Why?
The Woodsman used several varieties of magazines through the years and not all of them are interchangeable. Pre-WWII magazines will not work in post-WWII guns, and vice-versa. Second series magazines will work in third series guns, but only some third series magazines will work in second series guns. There are some after market magazines available, but they are not of good quality and frequently malfunction. If they are Colt originals, they will have Colt markings. You can see photos of various Woodsman magazines, along with a table of interchangeability, by clicking

If the Norinco has the heel magazine release (on the bottom) as opposed to a thumb or "1911" type release on the side of the frame, then it is in fact a first generation copy. As you point out it doesn't answer the question that I had: will a norinco M93 work in a first generation woodsman? Looks like it probably will fit, function reliably is another question.

The change that you refer to that allows woodsmans to fire high velocity ammunition was made part way through the first generation production. The first generation woodsmans all take the same magazines regardless of whether they are suitable for high velocity .22LR or not.

I was reading that magazine chart wrong, I hope you were able to clear it up and get the info you needed.
i'm sure you could find someone in your area willing to lend you an M93 mag to test out in your pistol.

Poster mudgunner49 above said he has a 1st gen. Woodsman and an M93, and that High Standard B mag.s work in either. He never talked about switching between the Colt and the Norinco, but he oughta know.

My M93 mag didn't last long enough for me to try in the Woodsman. Rather than sourcing more Norinco mags I decided to go a different route and it worked very well...
