I broke the decapping pin from a RCBS die. Called RCBS and they are going to send a new stem assembly free. The problem is that it was 4 weeks ago. I called them and they say that it is in the export departement waiting clearance.

Can I just buy the pin here in Canada.. And where.

Thanks

Other than buying a new set of dies....It is really doubtful you can get parts in Canada. I phoned RCBS also because of broken pins and 10 days later they arrived no charge in the mail.

decapping pins

Picked them up at a small local sporting goods store. Should not be a problem????? Also note that there are two sizes and an old style and new!

Chuck the nail in the press so you can use some emery cloth to adjust the size if necessary.

To get a question mark to appear, hold down the Alt key and type 063 with the numeric key pad.

The decapping stem would have to go back to Lee for replacement.

if it was a pistol, you can still use a finishing nail and a bit of solder to hold it in place as an expedient- i had a bunch of ivi 9mm that had undersize flasholes and kept pulling the pin out of the shaft- lee did send me a new one eventually- i used the decapper out of a 223 in between time- the rifle ones are one piece and SUPPOSED to be unbreakable- the rifle ones go back to lee

I did some more looking and I see you can buy the pin/resizing pin from their website for 3 dollars. We'll see if they replace it, I'll make a call Monday and post the results. First time using the dies as well, there must have been some debris in the brass.

If it as the normal decapping pin sometimes just a nail will do the job, or the use of a hand drill or drill-press you can get it to perfecton.

Mind you RCBS started to copy the same sort of pin a Lyman so there is a larger part at the top to make it sit in place.

Said pins are not costly & I have a dozen of each type just in case.

Actually RCBS are pretty darn good. I had one thing that wore out its 2nd of 3rd time & they replaced it & said I did not have to send it back. Then I said "Let us get this straight for nothing broke it was simply woren out" & to that the chap on the other end said something like "To us "woren out" is the same as broken".

Then got to thinking about a die set of this Lyman like decapping pin in an RCBS set of die. So curious & phoned again. That had him in a questionable state as they had just started to produce them for some rifles & I was talking about a 9X19 h/gun. Then he realized that possibly the gun shop needed that center part holding the pin as well as RCBSD so put in a replacement Lyman as a sub & sold it to me. THEY being RCBS actually sent me the complete inner part of the resizing/Decaping die & no I did not have to send said part back. THAT was when I decided that RCBS would be praised upon my part as I am doing now, yet that was some years back like around '89 or '90.

As we are in Cdns the American Govt will hold up every darn thing thinking we are making bombs out of them. Sometimes you have to wonder, but it is really a toll on anyone selling reloading gear to f/arms to pistolsmith & others.
