Where to buy? GTA

Hey guys,

I am new to reloading and looking for a one stop shop so to speak. Reasonable prices and close to the GTA are key requirements. I often shop online so that is not out of the question especially if there are deals to be had.

I've done a lot of reading and for my 9mm it appears many people use Dillon presses especially for competitive shooting is this essentially a requirement or will other brands work the same? I will also be reloading .270 but that is secondary.

So basically any help for recommends on a good store. I am looking for a multi stage press. Single is out of the question for me as I would like to make one purchase and be able to use it for a lifetime.

For supplies in the GTA close to your location, I'd check out Williams Arms in Port Perry, or Cedar Valley online.

For a decision on the press you need, there are plenty of threads on the topic. Before you start researching, ask yourself a few questions first.

1) How many rounds a month will you be shooting?
2) How much time do you have to make ammo. (and does this come off your range time?)
3) How many years will you be reloading?
4) How many calibers will you be reloading?
5) Do you like to tinker, or like tooling that generally works OTB?

A good progressive press is a must if you are a serious shooter. (You certainly can get away with factory or commercial reloaded ammo, but in the long term......)
 
I am out in Oshawa. For reloading stuff I go to Williams Arms in Port Perry. The carry Dillon and Lee Equipment. Most of the guys there reload and will be able to help you. You should be able to get a complete setup there. I started out with a Dillon 550 from Williams and I have been very happy.
 
Also as noted above: You are wise to want something beyond a single stage. If you are shooting alot of pistol, single stage will be way too slow. Some people swear by learning on a single stage but I disagree. I learned on a manual indexing progressive (550) and had no issues.
 
Williams arms for equipment and wise selection of pistol bullets.

Gag on is overpriced for pistol things if they even have it.

Lebaron is best for primer a and powder, if in stock.
 
I have a single stage which I use for rifle and small quantities of pistol ammo when I am developing loads. The 550 B Dillon progressive gets used for loading pistol in quantity. Nowdays I would look at the Dillon Square Deal progressive for pistol as I don't believe you can load rifle on it and use the single stage for rifle as I only shoot a box or two of rifle at a time. A progressive press is not a necessity for competitive shooting but it is much faster than a single stage. Phone the dealer and ask if someone can show you how to operate both types and explain the difference between the various models and then you can make your decission. Progressive presses are more expensive than a single stage and then there is usually dies, powder scales etc. you also have to buy.

This is the best, unbiased comparison between progressive presses.

For 270, a suggestion is to get a single stage press. For accurate rifle ammo, a single stage is best. If you just want "blasting" ammo for a rifle, a progressive will do just fine, but won't necessarily get that last bit of accuracy out of a round.
 
One more vote for Williams Arm. I used to live 10 min from it and they never failed to answer any of my questions.

My only advise is if buying a Dillon you may want to buy offline from Dillon or the Shooting Center in Calgary.
