It's definitely a trial and error operation. I haven't done it in a while. You need Manganese Phosphate (the pottery barn). Phosphoric acid (home grown hydroponics) DISTILLED water. Steel wool. I use 2 shot glasses of the manganese (it's an inert powder), 2 shot glasses of phosphoric acid (it's the real deal so caution, glasses and gloves). 4 litres distilled water. You need a cheap thermometer. Heat the water to 185 d F. Add the ingredients and a pad of steel wool. I let it stew for 20 minutes or so. Add your part . Hang it don't let it sit on the bottom. Let the part stew @185 for 20 min or longer. Pull it out and check it over. If I don't like it I will put it back in for a bit more. If you like it dump the part in hot clean water to stop the reaction. Take the part out and oil it up good and leave it sit for a couple of hours. Wipe it off and you should be good. NOTE prep is EVERYTHING, sandblast, de grease and wear rubber gloves. I often wipe it down with lacquer thinner just before I dump the part in. The home brew is a lot like witchcraft, sometimes it doesn't come out good and you can't figure out why. Too be honest, Arma coat didn't have their solution when I was doing a lot of Parking, I would probably just buy their stuff, because it's pretty much fool proof (and I'm getting lazy in my old age)
One last thing. If you're married and want to stay that way, don't do this indoors
