Where to buy Mauser Gewehr 98?

Probably under Milsurp.... Lever Arms has Yugos, Wanstalls has Russian capture. Wanstalls is shipping free in July! Tradex has sweet looking Brno, and some early Chilean contract.

Does the OP refer to any 98 Mauser in particular, or specifically a Gew. 98?

There have been some very good suggestions regarding 98 Mausers by TYPE. The Chilean 1912, built by Steyr in Austria, is accepted by many as the "cream of the 98s".

The Russian Capture (RC) rifles, though, were captured during the SECOND World War and thus will be nearly all KAR 98k models.

The original Gew 98 was built only in Germany and only between 1899 and 1918. They are 6 inches longer than the Kar98k but mechanically identical.

A batch of supposed Gew 98 rifles came to Canada about 20 years ago, I suspect through Poland. I bought 2 of them.... and came home with a "no-name" undated Kar 98b and a 1915/1920 Mauser-Mauser converted to Kar 98b standards with some Polish parts. For $106 apiece, I did not complain. The 98b "no-name" had a MINT bore and shoots under 1 MOA. I am not complaining.

I would suggest that if a genuine Gew 98 is what is wanted, to check out some of the major dealers, especially those who like to have odd and historic old things lying bout. PS Militaria often has a good selection..... and they photograph every rifle on their website.

If a 98 rifle is your goal, then you should know that Trade-Ex also photographs EVERY rifle: what you see is what you get.

Good luck!
