I'm hoping the wealth of knowledge available on this forum can help me out :runaway:

I've replaced the floorplate bottom metal on my 700-5R with a detachable mag set. The recess on the new bottom metal is a little deeper than on the floor plate, so when I snug the front screw in, it interferes with the bolt lugs rotating into place.

I'm looking for a spare front guard screw before I start grinding this one down. I can order these directly from Remington in the states, but I'd like to find a Canadian source. None of my local gun shops have these available.

Anyone know where to find these? Or am I best off dealing with a specialty fastener store like Brofasco?

Thanks.

I just installed the HS precision DM kit into my 5R and didn't notice any binding on the bolt lug as it appears to be just around flush, or maybe a hair above flush, but not enough to touch the bolt lug when rotated. This is torqued to 65 inch/lbs. The HS kit came with two extra washers- but no instructions on their use. I would assume that is what they'd be for should it protrude into the bolt lug. perhaps you might have one or two in your shop that would fit the bill? The HS kit was a perfect fit with only minor trimming with a thin Xacto knife for the mag release inside.

Hope this helps.

Thanks BigMofoFrog - I'm installing the same kit you have. It sounds like I have the other half of your kit - I received instructions but no washers! I will also look for washers, but I'm a bit suspect given the angle of the countersink.

For what its worth, I used a round file to take a few mm off to make room for the mag release. No other trimming of the stock was required.

Your welcome, I almost mixed up the two screws as they are different lengths. My rear one also sits flush at the back of the receiver in the bolt slide area. I didn't have to use the washers, but they like like could go between the bottom metal and the stock? Not sure how that might affect feeding though? Might be worth a try.

I found a 30-cent solution. I picked up a ss finishing washer (beveled) that fit the front guard screw. I then trimmed off the outer part of the bevel, leaving a perfectly shaped washer to fit between the screw head and the recess in the bottom metal.
