where to buy rest sand..

go to a autobody shop, bring a pail. ask for used sand. fill your pail free. I filled a dozen or so tire tubes with this & left them at our range. (some #### took the last ones for winter weight)

Surprized nobody has mentioned cork!

Go to a Michaels or whatever craft store you have and get some cork craft mats.

Munch em up into small pieces and it's be the lightest bag, but give superior hold and shape.

Also is waterproof - no rice snacks and pea soup on the mound.

I've used it for years in the .22 target rifle genre.

Hope it helps.

All the best, Carl

what dimensions do you guys use for your rear rests? 8" by 6" kind of thing? i find when i shoot prone off the ground, my bipod is extended to 9" and the butt of the gun is about 4" or so off the ground, give or take a bit.

why not try silica sand. there are 2 grades that i know of. won't hold water and packs real nice. believe it is heavier than regular sand.
found the fine grade is good for the rear bag but use the course stuff for the
ears and front bags.
