Where to find a .401 RN mold?

I'd like to reload cast for .40S&W.

I have the Lee 175-TL-401 and I can't for the life of me get it to feed properly in a Glock 22. I think it is the bullet design. Does anyone know where the heck a guy can find a round nose bullet mold in .401"? I don't understand why it isn't a commonly offered selection.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Your Glock fires cast bullets okay? I've read a lot about how most Glocks lead really badly because of the polygonal rifling. Some people have gotten cast to work in Glocks but it seems more luck than anything.

You could try submitting a design to a custom mold maker. I use Accurate Molds a lot and they aren't too expensive and everything I've gotten from them has worked perfectly. It would probably be a little over $100 and a few weeks to get a custom mold made. I've only used designs already in their catalogue so I'm not sure. All my molds from them cast within 0 to +.0005" tolerance of what I asked for. You specify the alloy you use so they can compensate for the different expansion characteristics. I use pure WW and they tend to grow a thou or two after cooling in most regular production molds.

Its actually an aftermarket barrel. For 100$ I don't suppose that would be a 6-gang mold?

Can't hurt too much to my get my hopes up...
 
Oops, sorry, forgot. I only usually buy 2-cavity molds and wasn't thinking. Unfortunately it's for a 2-cavity.
I just checked their site and a 2-cavity in aluminum is US$90. They only go up to 5-cavity and they're US$145
I also forgot our dollar is down (haven't ordered from the states in a while) so that's CAD$167ish + shipping.
 
Boomer is a CGN alias I'm guessing. Thanks, I'll give him a try. Do you folks figure its likely the bullet design? FMJ RN's cycle perfectly. Lead - no way. Isn't it odd that all molds in .401 are all semi wadcutter? What is it I'm missing?

if you don't mind 160gr bullets, NOE makes and has in stock a 5cavity aluminum one in stock for $99 http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/product_info.php?cPath=39&products_id=229&osCsid=fssu3nh7s7950m6qecqjlnofg5

he also has a round nose 180gr mold, but only a 2 cavity in stock.

otherwise check out cast boolits group buy section for 40 cal molds for sale, you may have to wait a while though.
 
I intend to cast up a bunch of these in the next couple of days, if you want to have a few for testing. I'm in Edmonton, you can come get some hot from the pot. Not a round nose but people have been reporting good feeding in Glocks.

I had major feeding issues with all different profiles in my NP 40, until I plucked up the courage to seat them a little deeper.
I could'nt find anything round nosed, and my bullets were crashing into the feed ramp.
.40 is crammed into 9mm sized guns, so COL seems very important. If you have'nt already, try seating deeper/shorter and backing off the powder a bit if your loads are high end(deeper seating will bump up your chamber pressure).
I'm shooting lee 180 lube groove boolits in my NP40 and JR carbine over 4 gr unique.Cheap as chips and a lot of fun!
 
I was considering the same bullet as the op to run in the NP-58 I just bought but now thinking twice about it. I suppose migrant hunters suggestion of seating the bullet until I get reliable feeding. Harder bullets and enamel coating could also aid in feeding.
 
I use the master caster and two cavity molds. It's a one handed operation to mold with this machine. I suppose if I did not do a synchronized movement of my left hand with a beer in it I could mold close to a thousand in an hour. I use the feed through sizer also from them.

They have no problem shipping to canada.


It appears they have a few 401 round nose bullet molds available.
