Where to find actions for build?

Howdy Folks,

I've got some ideas of doing various builds, but it seems almost impossible to find actions to do them on. All I can figure is to buy a new rifle to dismantle it, which to me seems like a waste of money.

So I'm curious if anybody out there knows where to find standard production actions for sale. I know custom actions are available, but at ridiculous prices for a hunting rifle build.

Really only looking for Savage or Sako/Tikka actions. Would be cool to be able to get stainless actions as well...

There is a push feed Winchester in the EE right now.
As for your quest for the Tika Sako or Savage actions I think those would also have to be sourced via the EE or Gun Shows.

I've bought new guns and sold the barrel and stock which brings the price down a bit, if you buy a donor gun them I suggest you get in a plain vanilla caliber as those barrels sell fastest. You might find a used gun with the action you want but the barrel and stock will usually sell for less . Good luck on your build.

SIGP2101 beat me to it. I would buy a Tradeex M69 Target Rifle with an interesting German K98 action and strip-off the barrel and stock (you'll get nothing for them, so you'll have a reinforced tomato stake and some firewood), and you're only out $500.

Sako/tikka actions are not commonly found bare. Tikka especially you would be better off buying a complete rifle for a good deal on the EE and selling the parts you don't want.

I know a gunsmith that has various 98 mauser actions, at least 1 Ross action and a whole host of others.

If I was looking for an action for a build I would go to Tadex and pick up the commercial Dumolin (sp) action. The only thing that would make it better would be LH availability.

Gary at big horn has Remington's I know it's not what your looking for but finding a bare sako or tikka is tough

A friend found 6 bare stainless 75 actions years ago, but I don't know who he had to kill to get them. I've got one of those built into a .300 RUM by Corlanes.
For the most part if someone wants a custom on a Sako that bad, they are looking at parting out a new or used one. That's the path taken with another build I have, that one by A.C. Douglas. For myself, I now seriously doubt if its worth it but I've spent more money on dumber things.

I do have Mauser actions for sale in the EE... including one nice 1640.
