Where to find best quality SKS ?

When you find out, let me know ,although i have not really looked around much.

I`m in the market for two more Russians ,a nice laminate and even a not so perfect Birch stocked version (for a project ,just need the action and barrel ,stock would be no use to me)

I saw a few at Ukrainian Wheel on Kenaston ,but nobody there had a PAL ,so I could not get the cabinet opened.

My buddy was in Swinebach at their C-Tire ,said they had a few SKS.

I might try the CGN sponsers here if nothing comes up ,perhaps Corwin Arks or weimajack...he always has nice stuff ,but it would be nice to buy local and save a few bucks on shipping.

I remember back when ,you could go to SIR and all you could buy were the Chinese SKS versions ,plenty of them and for $ 150.I loaded up on those !

The SKSs currently available in Winnipeg are generally in horrible condition, wholesale sport seem to have the worst, Canadian tire in Steinbach is next(lots of park/ bbq paint on receivers, poor stocks) and least horrible(but still bad) is the stock at the Leila store. Mike is great but his current stock of SKSs is not.

Where to find a quality SKS in Winnipeg ?

All black painted at CDN Tire now. Plus the '54 I purchased there ended up being a '50 (I guess they shuffle the receiver covers when they clean them up).

Try to find one with proper bluing. I would suggest contacting Corwin Arms (shipping is very reasonable).

The ones at Canadian Tire all seem to be in poor shape, yeah. Might very well be fine to shoot, but by no means a nice example. If any CT in the city will have a nice one, it's DEFINITELY going to be Leila.

I got mine (a very nice '53 Tula) at Cabela's, and whenever I've checked them or WSS they seem to have nice ones on hand. Guess that varies depending on which batch they have on hand at the time, though. Worth a look, if nothing else.

...a friend told me that SVT's are in WPG big box stores? ...any truth to this? ...quality? ...bought mine at a small gun store in SK...nice...just asking...

Depends on ones expectations. You aren't going to pull an unrefurbed show piece from the rack of 100 or so at CT Garden City, but there are nice ones with the usual handling marks we typically see. No sewer pipes or carved up destroyed stocks.

I can confirm Wholesale Sports has SVTs in stock for $329.

Also saw them in Canuck Tire (Garden City) earlier this summer for $299.

Cheers !!
