Howdy,

I am hoping to get into cowboy action shooting in the near future; got all the gear I need and this would justify the purchases :).

I was on a website a week ago and it had seen a pile of practice drills. Problem is that the kids came to ask me questions, I got distracted, and forgot to save the site. I have been searching for hours and I cannot find it again. It was a simple list of standardized drills, and who had created them.

Does anyone know where this wesbite may be? Also, does anyone have another source of any drills? Even old match courses of fire would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You may have been looking at the series put out by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. They feature a series of videos by Champion shooter: Jim "Long Hunter" Finch. Revolver, rifle and shotgun drills are demonstrated, in detail. You can likely find the site, by simply googling: "Cowboy action practice drills". This is an excellent resource, which will give you some very good tips.

Another good source would be Deuce Stevens. Deuce has a number of videos on youtube, which cover practice drills. Worth watching. There are a few more out there, but I believe Long Hunter's is likely the most informative.

Likely one of the best websites to visit, is: "Jedi TV". Cowboy action shooter "Jed I Knight" features videos of actual cowboy action matches, in great detail. Including stage scenarios, course of fire, competitors in action, slo-mo action, etc. The videos are very accurate in how they portray cowboy action matches. Its like being there....only virtually. You will find these videos highly useful, when entering the sport. As well as from a seasoned competitor's viewpoint. Jed also often features demonstration videos on gear and equipment, reloading, etc. Highly recommended.

Hope this helps.

Al

By the way: Though a lot of the tips may be useful, regard them as general information, only. The techniques demonstrated may work for those folks, but not necessarily, for you. Once you understand the basic techniques demonstrated, take what works for you, then develop from there.

Thanks for that. I had found most of the videos you had mentioned. What I was looking for were actually drills. What I had seen was a website with a list of differently named shooting drills. Kind if like El Presedente for IPSC and IDPA. They each had a name and the SASS shooter who created them.

Corey: I suspect you may be looking for detailed stage descriptions. Try: 'A Glossary of Sweeps.' Part of the OSASF site. Compiled by Crooked River Bob. Is this what you found? Non video, but does describe what you are looking for. Also, try: "Grizz's Place". Grizzly Dave does demonstrate a number of stage scenarios, in his videos. Ie: Three, four and five target sweeps, etc. All this info will be useful when setting up practice drills.

Hope this helps.

That was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a bunch. I used something similar when training for the National Service Condition Concentration at Connaught.

Corey: This also may be useful. Look up: Nationals 2019-Valley Regulators. Part of the Valley Regulators site. The "Bustup at Boomtown". SASS Canadian National Championship...2019. The site features all the stage descriptions from the match. This too, is excellent information for you to develop into practice drills. As it features exactly the scenarios you might expect at a match of this size. The way they would be run. Worth a look.

Howdy Corey!
Try looking at various CAS club websites, where the next match booklet is often posted.
You'll find The Square Circle Wranglers and Ruff's Regulators websites often have one up.
The Square Circle Range is shut down, for use right now, while construction work continues.
We hope you can make it out for the December/Christmas match and to say Howdy to Lefty.
Have a look at the Square Circle website for details.
