Hey guys,
I've tried the search option and found some good posts which are helpful, but i was wondering where would be a good place to look for a pistol online. I am a poor student and dont want to spend over 500 dollars, but i do want something that will last a while.
What do you think would be a good choice, and where might i find it?
thanks for the help.

One of the best places is right here on the Exchange Forum, lots if great deals to be had here.

Lots of the companies that have their links at the top of the pages offer used pistols. I've dealt with Armco and Tradex Canada on multiple occasions and you can definatly find a nice pistol for under 500$. It all depends on what your looking for..... what caliber..... revolver or semi-auto..... what look or model do you find yourself having wet dreams for etc...

But for sure, the exchange forums here are awsome, check on it every half hour, the one your looking for just may pop up.

For $500 new you can only get a Norinco (and no one has they in stock btw)

I'd recommend a used Taurus PT92/99 (Beretta copy) you can buy one for $400 if you look around. They're greatly underrated... or a new 24/7 can be had for $550 new....or a maybe a used M&P

RUGER P89 is $525 at Dantes sports (Montreal) . Brand new with two mags. I have one on the way to me next week. Far better than any Norinco.

+ 1 on the Ruger P89, I bought myself one of those for my first pistol, a KP89DC actually, way back in spring. I only payed $535 including taxs at W.S.S. in Lethbridge.
So far all I've managed to put through'er is roughly 800 rounds and have had zero problems so far. I like it enough that I am thinking about picking up a Ruger 345.

Ee!

Buy here on the equipment exchange (EE)! I've only ever bought a couple of new guns; everything else I've ever wanted I've found here. Lots of good stuff available here for under $500: right now there's a CZ 75 in 9MM for $475, a Beretta 96D in .40 for $500, and a Ruger P94 .40 for $500, if you're seriously thinking Ruger. I personally like Glocks, and I've occasionally seen a 2nd gen G17 for $500ish...

Norinco 1911C's are also nice guns; good value, and run around $350-$450, depending on what they come with...

Im definitely thinking 9mm, because like i said im poor so i want to be able to afford to shoot! haha.
ive considered buying a norc np22, and the s&w m&p makes me drool.
As of right now, i cant access the EE cuz im new to the site, so im workin on it.
Thanks for the help so far

+1 on a used Ruger 9mm. I don't have one, but I do have a 345 / .45 and it's sweet.

Ammo is a touch on the "arm and a leg" side, however.

I'd stay away from Norinco and Ruger and buy a used gun instead. For $500 you should be able to get a slightly used CZ-75B, Glock or M&P.

I have three Ruger handguns...the .22LR 22/45 MK III, a .357 MAG stainless Security Six, and the KP89DC pistol (stainless 9mm), and I like them all.

The trigger on the KP89DC is not the greatest in double action, but it's not bad once you get into single action mode. Everything else about the gun is great, including being an American-made stainless pistol for under $600 CAD (the blued version is under $500).

I like the CZ a bit better, but that is in no way stating that the P89 is crap. I shoot the P89 fairly well, better than some of the Glock and 1911 snobs who show up at the range and turn up their nose on everything else.
