My grandfather is going to teach me how to melt and cast lead into slugs. I have collected 18.5lbs of wheel weights from work and now my grandfather says I need to find pure lead to mix in with the weights. Does anyone know where in the GTA I can find pure lead to buy?

I have little to no idea what I'm doing (still learning), I am just following his guidance and figured you guys could help me find some lead.

Thanks,
Rupert

Talk to roofers and see if they come across lead sheeting. When they take it to the scrap ealers they get nothing for it. Offer to pick it up, or even pay soething for it. Or go to the scrap dealer and bring cash. That's what works here anyway. The true motherlodes though is when a hospital retres an X-ray machine. The counter weights are also discarded. I've been in on one of those deals. Pb out the demon hole.

Mind you, slugs might be better off as pure lead I think, or mix it 20 to 25 parts lead to one part tin. Never casted slugs before myself, but the wheelweights may make them too brittle.

Try some of the local scrap metal business. There is one by the airport that has lead. It is not cheap. Last time was .75/lb scrap weight. If you pick through it carefully you won't lose much to the crap you will have to skim off of it.

If you do find a place to buy lead, don't tell people where it is. Although AIM has lots of lead, their prices are a little high. You might as well buy cast bullets as the price of their lead/alloy is about what you pay for cast, sized and lubed bullets.

Thanks to everyone for the tips and advice!:D

I found a place in Toronto called Monarch Metals and the fellow I spoke to said they have lead bars for sale. His price is 30lbs for $25, is that a reasonable price?
