Where to find serial number?

Ive got a 303 British pictured here and was wondering where the serial number would be? Also how many digits would it be? I found a 4 digit number on the action and the same number on the barrel would this be it ?Also whats the proper procedure on measuring the barrell length?

should find it on the receiver and barrel on the right side, should be like this

so your 4 digit number is the last part of the serial number look above it for the letter

Could it be a T ? I will look again but I dont remember a letter on the barrel but I think it has a T on the receiver. Also as far as the barrel length goes does 24.5" sound about right? I butted the tape against the reciever then to the end of the barrel.

the best way to measure a barrel ( it's the way verifiers do it )
is to insert a wood dowel of the right diameter in the barrel with the action closed.

make a mark on the dowel flush with the muzzle, measure the lenght
of the dowel from the end that was inserted in the barrel to the mark
you made.

this will be your true barrel lenght.

If the barrel is uncut, the length should be 25.4". The barrel screws into the receiver, but it is still the barrel.

You have the correct procedure above.

What make and year is it? (Lift the bolt-handle and look on the steel butt-socket, right where the bolt-handle was hiding things. Factory, year and exact model are marked there.)
