where to get a blunderbuss kit

Checked out the link looks nice but the ones I've seen had a bigger caliber barrel with a flared end to the barrel and as for caliber I thought they where like .54 cal? But not to sure

no set cal in history no set cal now .75 being the most common now but 4 bore witch is a bit over 1" these kits are sort of common

here these kits dont have the rings found on the barrels on some guns they have to be made and put on by the builder if they want them http://www.stonewallcreekoutfitters.com/blunderbuss-kit/

Remember, most provinces won't let you hunt with anything bigger than a 10-bore.

An 11 is a good size: big enough to blast yourself a Goose but not so big that anyone could say that it is bigger than a 10 (many 10s are choked-down to 11).

A 4 is a definite no-go unless you have tags for Cattle Rustlers or Pirates.

Either one will make a MIGHTY roar with that short barrel.

in ontario its good for all game but waterfowl and .495 round balls could be used as buckshot or you could get a whole lot of 000 buck in a load

try these folks, not Canuck but they ship here:

http://www.sittingfoxmuzzleloaders.... Blunderbus_files/K8 Club Butt Blunderbus.htm

They have at least one other blunderbuss kit.

Also do some searching and check out CGN Brutus' blunderbuss - IIRC he picked it up from that Loyalist Arms and has apparently treated him well. Worth having a look at, unless of course (like myself) you enjoy building from a kit.

Mine came secondhand from Loyalist Arms via the EE here. (10 bore=.775)
No complaints at all, but it was already assembled versus kit form.
The company readily provided load data through email communications BTW.

Cheers!

Edit: As an aside I'm going to agree to disagree with the info posted on the Sitting Fox webpage.
In my estimation the flared end of the barrel does effect the pattern causing it to spread sooner.
Solve this riddle:
Why else would the USN SEALs go to all that trouble with a duck-bill choke on thier combat shotguns if muzzle shape did not in fact work??

Ah there ya go, I was close! I would scoop one as well given the chance, having seen your review. OP should have a gander at it.

And to answer prevost12, as long as they have an OAL of 26" or greater (and the barrel is manufactured, not cut, if the barrel length is below 18.5") then yes, these would fall under non-restricted.

The interest is small but very constant here on CGN for these neat old blasters.
I did a bit of online research on that .54 calibre percussion blunderbuss so often touted south of us via cabelas and such big outfits.
My advice is stay away from it. Hovey Smith took one to an island off Georgia along with his two percussion revolvers.
The feral pig/wild boar shot with the tiny blunderbuss got clean away from him. (wounded no less)
Which should have been a no-brainer to him, as in reality this is a very short 28 gauge BP shotgun!!

Shame on you Hovey. :(

its just a pest no doubt it died as long as it died

I found a percussion cap blunderbuss kit on sportsguide for $299. I called the RCMP and the CBSA today and they both said that its fine to bring in as a non restricted in which case all I would need to do is present my PAL and fill out an import permit. I was told it would be a painless process and would only take a few minutes, so I think I might go that route. For $299 you can hardly go wrong.
