Where to get reloading stuff in the GTA?

Well I just got back from Epps. It's a cool little store but it's really small. They do have alot of stuff in stock though which is great. I would say if they also had more people working the gun room, it would make the store even better.

I just got some power, primers, Nosler Accubonds 180 grains. I didn't want to spend too much money so I wasn't there long.

I got my reloading kit in the mail yesterday also. I have to figure out how to use this which seems pretty easy except for maybe 2 steps. I didn't go with any info so I had to check out everything from my phone which is slow so I just got the accubond and the imr 4064.

Thanks all

so what you made you to decide on the 4064 powder?

I went with that because I forgot to bring some info with me and I quickly looked through the Lyman book they had at the store along with a barnes reloading book and I saw the 4064 was used with all bullet grains and I had to make a quick decison.

Today I checked out Giavonnis (sp?) close to Wilson and Dufferin in Toronto and man. First you have to show a PAL to every walk in there. The lady was really rude to me. Then I get in there and they had nothing I wanted. She said she carried alot of powder but I asked for some Reloader 22 and she had none, I asked for Ballistic Silvbertips and she had none. She said she has been waiting for 3 months to get it in.

Ahh well, I guess I have to open my own store if I want good service and products to be in stock.

Most Hodgdon powders are engineered to be less temperature sensitive - a desireable property for those standing 300 y shots in sub zero weather.

I personaly think this is the biggest piece of B.S. that has been sold to reloaders. A few years back it was scandinavian powder that everybody wanted. Now we are told that Varget is the least temperature sensitive. Funny, Hodgdon keeps tweeking the formula, the US military picked Reloder 15 because they found it the be the least temperature sensitive of all the powders available, and where is RL 15 made, Scandinavia (Sweden).

Do you really think Hodgdon is the only powder company that can make (or is still trying to make ) a temperature insensitive powder?

Did I say that Hodgdon was the only company to do so? My own experiences have shown the extruded Hodgdon powders to be less sensitive than IMR. And I use RE 15 a lot in certain calibres (303) - I quite like it (and not because I'm Scandinavian)
In a previous post, I encouraged Cereal to go with the Hodgdon product because it is very available - unlike some other brands.

ahhhhhhhh that lady... isn't she something?:D :D :D

I bet that lady hates her life so much she is #####y to everybody.

When I tried to walk in there, she like screamed at me, I need to show a PAL to go in there. I felt like walking away.

Nothing like encouraging you to be a repeat customer:rolleyes:

Your best bet is Higginson Powders. He deals with Hodgdon, IMR, and now Winchester powders, Hornady, and Lee.

If you like Alliant powder and Sierra bullets, well things are not so easy. I still have not found a place that sells Sierra bullets at a resonable price.

I do look forward to when Cabelas comes to Canada. They will only be an hour away from me.

My friend & I refer to the Giovanni's woman as the the ammo nazi. Still, not to many place in the gta you are going to find 6.5 carcano in stock, so the place is good for something.

Could I accually drive to Higginson Powders and pick stuff up? If so where are they located?

That Ammo nazi is mean lol

lol wow thats far. I emailed him about 3 weeks ago with no reply yet.

I will try to send him off another email.

Thanks

Hi again

Actualy, I find the phone call the most affective way to get the answers.

This week I emailed some places looking for somethings,

"what is your price on whatever?"
"whatever is out of stock"
"So when will you be getting more of whatever?)
"we don't know"
"So why are you running adds for whatever when you don't have it in stock?"
"Because we will have it back in stock"
"When?"
"Whenever"

Typical:runaway:

Sheesh!! Am I ever glad I live in B.C. after reading this thread!! Here, practically every little town has a sporting goods store that has a decent stock of these "vital" necessities for the reloader. Here in PG, we have at least 3 places to get components, some are well stocked, some not so well, but between them, you can almost always find what you need. Additionally, mail order to Calgary or Edmonton will get practically anything you may need. Higginsons is excellent if you need quantity. We pool and buy from Andrew there. Always good to deal with. Regards, Eagleye.

It's only the Toronto area that has no gun stores left to speak off (what a surprise  ) All other major and minor towns in ON seem to be ok. Man I'm glad I don't live in the GTA :dancingbanana:

If you can't get a decent bulk order from Andrew at Higginson Powders, try and get together with a few shooting buddies to make up an order. I usually buy powder in 21lbs lots or greater and primers at least 10,000 of each type. In that case, you only pay the $15.00 Hazmat fee, shipping is free. Bullets can be shipped without the Hazmat fee, but I usually include a few thousand as well to get the shipping free. If you ever get in the nabourhood of Hawkesbury, you should drop in and pick up reloading supplies there, but give Andrew a head's up a couple of days before if you have a substantial order. That way you don't have to wait for him to stock pick your order :)
