Howdy all,

If this already exists on a sticky, my apologies for not seeing it despite reading through them....

Besides ebay, is there anywhere else I can get myself the entire rear sight assembly for my NorcM305? Preferably right here in Canada?

As well, I was reading that the front sight on the shorty should be changed as well to a taller one. The articles deal with the "bush" M1A/M14, but since it has the same 18" barrel, it left me wondering about our shorties. Any truth to that?

Thanks

Hi -- If you do a search for 'Italian Connection" on the titles in this forum, you'll get an email link to a guy in Italy who sells Beretta-made BM-59 rear sights for short barrel M-14 rifles. Price is right...about 65 Euros incl. shipping. I ordered two sets, in the spirit of #### preservation.

You can also find sight assemblies and parts at Brownells and Treeline [I think]. Do a Google search for M14 sights and you can probably find more. Just make sure they have stock and ship to Canada [rolleyes].

All you really need is the Windage and Elevation knob assemblies, and maybe the actual aperture part itself. The Norinco sight base and cover should work fine for you.

I have the short front sight on my M305s...it doesn't seem to be a problem, although I have to crank my aperture up a bit to compensate. Since I don't plan to shoot past 300yd. with irons, it's no matter.

Earlier this week I did a bit of shooting at 25yd, mostly to test for function [4 new 5/20 mags from Lever Arms, also of the action itself in the original Norc stock]. Here is the result with the Norc sights in place. I had to fiddle with them a bit, but they are now about where I want them...

[Sorry...please repair the URL and browse it if you want to look. Either Picasa or the Forum is screwing with my image posting and I don't feel like sorting it out right now...]

The top group was the first 3 5-shot strings, the lower were two more strings.

A rifle zeroed at 25yd. should also be good for 300yd [so sayeth Hungry, if I understood him correctly...something about trajectory curvature]. I don't regard this group as bragworthy, [25 yds? Pfffftttt...] but it shows some potential...esp. if I can determine which mag gives me the best results.

Thanks Tengoo. Any idea if a full length Picatinny rail exists for the shorties? I know Troy Industries makes one for the full length M14. I ask because maybe that will solve both my problems (front and rear sights can then be Magpul flip up, AND I can easily mount any optic I want on the thing....)

I put an Ultimak M8 forward mount on mine for an LER scout-style scope. It seems good, although it may take a bit more adjustment. I suggest you read through the stickies about scopes and sights, they may describe something closer to what you want. My sense is that the M-14 may not be as flexible in its sighting options as more modern rifles. But really, even the Norc sights aren't too bad if you work with them, IMHO.
