Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good skeet or trap range around Edmonton. I went to the Spruce Grove Gun Club awhile back and was not too impressed by their set-up. I used to shoot at the Kingston Trap and Skeet Club in Ontario while attending university at RMC. Haven't found or heard of a place around here yet that compares. I'm sure there are folks in Edmonton that shoot skeet or trap. I'd be interested in finding out where to go. Thanks.

Edmonton Gun Club is located south of town by the Int. Airport.
Great range if you shoot ATA.
If you are into sporting clays Beaverhill Sporting Clays at Tofield has a sweet setup.

Beaverhill is now equipped with a wobble trap and a skeet field, as part of a joint venture between Beaverhill and N.A.S.A (the Northern Alberta Shooters Assn.). The wobble trap is set up to emulate international trap targets, and the skeet field can be switched between international and American skeet.

Thank you both for the information you've provided. I'm wondering if there are any ranges that are under an hour's drive time from where I live in St Albert. South Edmonton and Beaverhill are both quite a commute just to get in a bit of shooting on a regular basis. Any good ranges north of the city?

Nope, Beaverhills is it. It is set up so you can shoot by yourself with delay switches on all the machines.
It is 59 kms to the south turn off the Yellowhead and another 10 minutes from there, from Edmonton city limits.
Calgary has facilities closer to town, long as there isn't a screw up on the Deerfoot? FS

Camrose has a gun club just South of town near the garbage dump. They have a Skeet field, a trap field, and a nice rifle range.

Cheers,

I've never used anything but the pistol and rifle range at Genesee, do they have a manual launcher like SPFG? I recently moved to St.Albert so Genesee is a lot closer to me now.

Edmonton Base Commander has asked me to look into setting up skeet/sporting clays on base. I know nothing about the sports but if someone is willing to help design a course we can work on getting it set up and funded.

PM me if interested.

Contact the Alberta Sporting Clay Association.

"The primary objective of the ASCA is to promote the growth of sporting clays in a way that is beneficial to all who enjoy and participate in the game." This quote is from the 2010 ASCA program.

The organization has a lot of capable people that should be able to help you.

Would the public be able to use the range?

Civilians can join the Edmonton Garrison club to get access to it. PM me for details on joining if interested.

My initial look at it is that it would be prohibitively expensive due to environmental concerns. Federal land means it is subject to extremely strict environmental standards and remediation would demand a very expensive process that likely can not be justified.

I am not finished the estimate so its not a dead issue yet.
