Where to have hides tanned?

Anyone know of a tannery in western Canada that will tan deer/moose/elk hides? Long ago Dominion Tanners in Edmonton used to do them, but I moved from there 34 years ago and don't know if they still exist.

Halford's in Edmonton will do it, for sure. They charge $4.95 per square foot for leather, or $125 for a skin with the fur on it.

I don't know if there are any surprise charges - I donated my hide to Alberta Fish & Game, in return for which you get a raffle ticket on a rifle. I don't know what rifle, I didn't really care. It was a better option that paying to tan a hide I don't need.

i just talked to this guy (Tony) today. $14.00/sq. ft.

fur on hides only, won't make leather. he said if it comes with legs he trims everything off to roughly square

I've used Western Fur Tannery in Edmonton Ab. Stanley and Maria do a fine job, but you might have to wait a bit.

There's a tanner in Carrot River Saskatchewan that's good. Can't remember what they are called though. Sorry. I took a tour when I was up elk hunting, pretty neat process. They just happened to be finishing an elephant and a zebra. Awesome stuff.

My dad used to tan my hide for free when I was a kid. Good times, good times!!

Last time I had a hide tanned I used Dominion
I had used Halford before and always wondered about the product I got back
Never had a problem with Dominion

There are many books and a bunch of info on doing it yourself. I plan on trying my hand at doing it myself this year if I'm successful deer hunting.

Used to be a hutterite colony that did leather and made gloves, etc. near Lethbridge. Magrath maybe?

This was a few years back and their prices were going up pretty steeply. Not sure if they are still in the business though.
