Where to lube a SKS-Noob Question

I just bought a SKS and cleaned all the cosmoline out of it and i have a range date booked,I put a light coat of oil on the bolt and trigger group and recoil spring but do you oil the gas tubes,plunger and piston spring?Please let me know,Thanks. :D
 
  1. Grease the side rails of the bolt carrier, were it contacts the reciever.
  2. A little bit of grease on the front face of the hammer.
  3. Also if you feel realy frisky but it is not nessecarry some grease on the side rails of the sear.
Everything else if run dry make's your clean up a brezze!
 
grease, oil, bacon fat, it doesnt matter. Ive been liking my new M-pro7 oil and cant wait to try their gun cleaner too. The SKS doesnt need much lube, and some people even report running the whole rifle dry with no problems. I like to lube up practically everything except the trigger group each time but I may try Satains idea. So far Ive found 2 oils that WORK in the gas system and they are Ballistol Klever and M-pro7. They are really light oils and if you put a very thin coating on they will prevent rust without collecting carbon and powder residue and baking on during firing.
 
K supernova you seem like your a little bit more experence shooter on this platform. So I have a question for ya.
Why do you lube the gas system?
I heard of people using brake cleaner to clean it and I even heard of people using dry silicone spray to protect it & give some type of lube to it. Although I have always been told to keep gas pistons system's to be kept clean. Not saying your ideas are wrong but would like to here your reason why.
 
Where there's metal sliding on metal, I would suggest applying some oil. This goes for the piston, bolt, bolt carrier etc. The only thing to avoid putting lube on would be the firing pin as its intended to be as free moving as possible without sticking in any one position. Not only is it a good idea to lube everything to reduce wear, but it acts to reduce the likelihood of your rifle rusting. It certainly makes cleanup a a more involving process if your using suplus ammo, but in the long run you're better off.

Grease seems a bit heavy, but I suppose would work well when applied to the rails of the bolt carrier.
 
I grease all the contact points between the bolt and carrier, and bolt/carrier group and reciever. just makes it slide nicer. not like it cares, its suposed to be lubed with blood,mud and what ever else a commie can throw into it. I oil the whole thing down after cleaning. Including the piston. When its time to play, i spray the piston with breakleen to get the oil off it. I use boat trailer wheel bearing grease for my M14 and the sks.
 
Satain, I oil the gas system just to keep it from rusting. Im not big on the whole windex and boiling water kind of cleaning, just cheap solvent for me. I always forget to clean the oil out before shooting so having something that doesnt gum up and bake on is a big plus. And yes, its a little more to clean but its dirty and has to get done anyways. Then the rifle can sit in the safe without me having to worry about it. I dont oil the gas system on any of my other semi's cause I dont shoot corrosive in them.
