I want to tear it down, clean it and re oil it.... so where do I oil, and where do i NOT oil? is any grease necessary?

Also, those little pins going through the receiver.... how much effort should it take to snap them in/out? The large one at the rear only took a little tap to come out with a drift, and i can snap it back in with a little effort from my thumb...

is this normal? is there a way to tighten them up?

thanks!

Pins get tapped out with an awl or something similar. No way to tighten them up that I know of, but they never seem to come out.

For my 870's, I just wipe with an oily rag. A very small amount on the slide bars maybe but that is about it. I prefer to keep them dry. Too much lube and they get full of debris from cornfields etc. I spray the trigger mech out with gun spray but then blow it dry with compressed air.

The more you shoot your gun, the smoother it gets, as far as the action.

I run the trigger groups of my 870/760/7600 under HOT water after spraying solvent over them. I let the water run long enough to totally heat up the entire part. It will retain enough heat to dry itself out. A light spray with light oil goes on after that.

Those pins are held in place with a spring clip that engages the undercut or cannelure on them. It does not take much pressure to hold them in place. This is normal...As for oiling, I would oil all the metal surfaces lightly to prevent rust, keeping the bolt face, chamber and bore completely dry. A little lube goes a long way....

Thanks very much guys... I totally broke down the gun tonight and saw the retaining clips for the pins, snugged them up by making sure they were bent tight around the pivot tubes like them came when first made, and they are holding much tighter now (they were actually pretty decent before).

No better way to understand your gun better than breaking it down to clean it and seeing how it all works...lol ;)

Appreciate the help, as always... :D
