I have a Pedersoli Highwall 38-55. I slugged the bore with a .379 cast bullet, and even when its been shoved half way down the barrel you can still see daylight around the rifling grooves. I would like to order a mould in the .381-.382 range and I'm wondering if any one can recommend a company to order this from. Thanks.

NOE Molds is a popular one and theres a couple others mentioned on the Cast Boolits forums. I believe my Lee is dropping wheel weight at .381" and I'm loading them at .380" for the same rifle.

Mountain Molds still offering the custom mold builder app on their site? Worth a look.

A bud got a mold for his .500 Smith there, and was really happy.

Perhaps consider reaming out the mold you have?

Opening it up with a reamer is only gonna work if he is looking for a flat sided paper-patch bullet.

Opening up an existing mold is a fiddly bit of lathe work, between the size of the tool, and working blind getting into the groves that become the OD of the bullet.

There is a trick or two with Lee molds that opens them up a little. One way to get a thou or 2 is to fix some thin shimstock between the halves but too much gives boolits that are out of round or have fins.

The other trick involves casting a bullet, driving a screw into the center, impregnating it with a fine grinding compound then chucking it in a drill and spinning it in the mold. May take several bullets and coats of compound. Called Lee-menting maybe... The cast boolit forums are your friend.

More to your point, I just received 2 NEI molds that I'm very happy with. Their site is a bit odd to shop on but works.

I've always been happy with moulds from Buffalo Arms. They'll have a few in that diameter from what I recall. Or if you want a custom mould built to your specs you could call Steve Brooks or Paul Jones. I'm waiting for an invoice from Brooks as we speak. They are currently taking 4 weeks.

before you invest in a mould

take another .379 bullet and push it in the bore, and then take a couple brass rods and from both ends, tap that sucker full diameter and measure your bore.

no point investing in a custom mould only to have it too small also.

Lead Bullet Technoligies (LBT) has some practical info on his site, for slugging the throat and the barrel. You really ought to do both unless you are just going to breech seat the bullets. I've got moulds from LBT, and NEI, and Paul Jones, and Saeco and Lyman & Lee. For a target bullet, Jones is great, I like the LBT WFN best for a hunting bullet. You are better off, going with someone custom, like LBT or Brooks or NEI or NOE or Jones, to get it sized right, than say Lee or Lyman or Saeco or RCBS.
