This may be a ? asked a 100 times already. Of the 10/22 currently availible at Wholesale or SIR- which one. Some buddies said avoid the one with the barrell band others said it did not matter. I will eventually upgrade the bits and componets that I have read on here that you guys have done- but not right away- me and my son will play with it for awhile. Or the question could be I buy the cheapest model availible with the intent of upgrading, In what order do you upgrade eg, stock , barrel, trigger etc or another sequence I want a semi auto that will shoot nice groups, blast some gophers and look cool while doing it. if you are able to help thanks very much

Cheapest model.

The only other one I would CONSIDER, if you didn't want to aftermarket it up, is the K10/22T. Again, only if you want to leave it stock.

Otherwise, cheapest model will give you the most important part... the receiver and trigger group. Everything else will be replaced!

Ok cheapest one then what would you upgrade 1st, barrel, stock, trigger- what about those upgrade kits from Butler Creek for $200 or is it better tobuy componets spereate. I have never owned a 10/22 so not sure what to upgrade 1st

TinMan123, the first upgrade I would make,if accuracy is your goal, is a new barrel. If you want a bunch of 10/22 upgrading info, visit my website where I discuss in detail barrels, triggers..etc. www.rugerfan.com

Get yourself a Green Mountain barrel from willwagspal here on CGN for under $200. You'll need a new stock to accept the bull barrel. The Hogue stock is pretty nice. Definitely replace the bolt buffer. Those can also be found here on CGN for around 10 bucks. The rest of the internals are nice to haves.

Just my 2cents

10/22

What are you planning to do with the 10/22. Hunt, plink, or shoot match? Why are you so interested in upgrading a system that works quite well from the getgo except for a trigger pull on steroids. The joy of this gun is that you can take it as far as you want to go, but it is a 22 after all. I have one and use it to plink and ate grouse for the first time in 35 years this fall with a stock stainless. Once the trigger thing is dealt with that is just the way it will stay. Great gun to play with while the barrel of my 30-06 is cooling off. My wife likes it too and wants to shoot lots. Ammo is so cheap compared to everything else I shoot. My .02.

Your right all I want is to shoot gophers and targets with my kids- I want the 10/22 just for the 25 shot clip and speed loader- kids are 6 and 4 so they just wanna pull trigger as fast as they can. why upgrade - cuz it seems like the cool thing to do- everyone else is so y not me

10/22

I have 2 10 shot clips. One of the reasons I bought it is aside from everyone thinking it is the best semi you can buy but it has a rotary magazine. It only takes a few seconds to load one up and 2 more to pop it in. One of the things you must learn is to take the time to aim at your target. Banging away is kind of stupid in a way- the whole reason for shooting is either to hit a target or to get better at that. I will not ever own a 25 shot clip. The rotarys fit so nicely in a pocket-I can carry 4-6 in my shirt pocket and they go in in seconds. That is the joy of the system. Use it as it is first and then see if you want to change anything. Likely anyone here will tell you factory magazines are usually the ones that work the best. My $.02. Just have some fun with it.
