Which 1911 to buy?

So many nice ones out there! Anyone have any advice on external extractor vs internal? S&W has a neat compact model that kind of interests me. On another note, have you considered any calibre, other than .45? There's a nice Kimber 10mm on a dealer website. Kind of pricey, but what a beast!

Typically external extractor 1911s have been a bit dicey. It APPEARS that S&W has finally cracked the code on the external extractor for the 1911 with their E series, but I would also say it's pretty early in the game to say that with confidence. Their earlier ones were not as reliable. The SIG ones have ranged from effective to poor. The Kimber ones had a bunch of issues as well.

I am HOPING that the E series lives up to its billing, because external extractors are inherently less finicky than the traditional internal ones which require hand tensioning rather than just swapping out springs.

I just got a SIG 1911

My buddy has one. Stupid accurate. VERY well manufactured. Tight, fit & finish is top notch. Trigger is outstanding.
I am very impressed by it it and hold it in the highest regard. In this case, you get what you pay for ;)

I wanted a Ruger 1911 but just couldn't handle the wait and got a Colt Series 70 and I am glad I did!!! Do your research and you won't be disapointed with a 1911.

Enjoy!! :D

I'm also planning on buying one in that price range, and I'm looking hard at the sig 1911's. People seem to be really happy with them, and they are stupid accurate. Haven't handled one yet, just been doing some digging on the internet. So take this with a grain of salt.

Thanks for all the reviews and info here !

I'm in the market for a 1911,,, any thoughts on the Dan Wesson Valor ?

Remington R1 1911

I'm really happy with my Rem R1 1911.

Dimpled & lowered ejection port, good sights, double diamond grips, beveled mag well, long tang; all the basic mods.

Mine even came with a decent trigger pull. The price is right as well. What's not to like?

1911

I love my Sig 1911 Traditional Match Elite...new will cost you a few bucks, but if you find a good deal (I found one for just over $1000 NIB) on CGN, go for it! bit fussy with reloads, but factory shoot sweet out of this little beauty
