Which .22 handgun?

I went with the Glock 44 as i want to use it for practicing for its full bore brethren, plus you can use aftermarket Glock sights on it, never-mind the holster.. ~3000 rounds without issue.

I'm going to break ranks and say get a revolver. I had my fill of jam-o-matic fussy pistols/magazine/ammo combinations. No extra magazines to purchase. A revolver loads and fires anything from 22 shorts to hyper velocity LR's without hiccups. I picked up S&W model 17 and a speed loader with a loading block. I use it in my local speed steel matches. Fun stuff.

Agree...a 22LR revolver is just like a 30-06 bolt action rifle, in that it will safely fire nearly anything (and the 30-06 is the .22LR of the centerfires, in that a similar huge amount of cartridge research has gone into its development.)

gsg makes the swiss arms 22a. took mine out for the first range trip the other day total flop with the ammo i bought. went home changed the spring to second one that came in box. the store i bought it from check and tightened lip on mags some remminton thunderbolt it cyled evey round. wont cycle the cci christmass stuff i bought. but wow its flawless
not a bad choice 425 most stores

Taurus TX 22 won gun of the year in 2019 and mine runs flawlessly, amazing grip and feel and it cycles everything I feed it, especially like the huge fireball from cheap cci strangers:)

One Kit I did not mention in my first post is the CZ .22LR kit for the CZ75/85/SP01 series of pistols. I have one for years and it shoots anything you run in it. CZ was smart in how they designed the kit. It essentially is a purpose built top end that only utilizes a small portion of the slide to function the gun. When mounted on a 75/85 the gun is extremely accurate, feels and shoots like the real thing without the recoil. Unit works IF you already have the host pistol.

Take Care

On the other hand GSG 1911, Glock 44, TX22 and Walther PPQ-22 you have firearms that mimick their centerfire ones and have to move a huge honking slide which is made of aluminum or zinc alloys. This complicates the blowback system and can cause problems in failure of eject or extract if the ammo doesn't get the recoil impulse just right.

The Glock 44 slide is made of polymer with steel inserts/rails and is crazy light. It feels like a water pistol without a loaded mag in it. I agree with you that a purpose built gun for .22 is better.20200925_115138.jpg

Buy a .22 that is built as a .22, not something that mimics another large caliber pistol. You will get better reliability and accuracy from these guns. Ruger are good, but the .22/45 have goofy ballance, and thier triggers are not great. Beretta Neos are not great either. I don't care about the looks of the S & W Victory, but... they really shoot well. I'm an old High Standard guy; best factory triggers on a .22 ever. S & W .22 revolvers are sweet. GSG, Swiss Arms, Chiappa, Ruger Rangler are pot-metal (same crap they built cap guns out of in the '60s) and are less than durable as are the finishes.

Buy a good pistol that is more accurate thay you are, and it will pay dividends when you start shooting more CF guns. It will also never lose it's charm. One of my HS pistols I bought in about 1973, and I still shoot it, and it still astounds me with it's accuracy. I always shoot my CF pistols better after a day at the range with the High Standards.

You will never regret buying a good gun. People laugh at me with my "old" pistols, until the shoot against me, or I let them shoot them.

For small hands look at the browning 1911 22 its a scaled down 1911.

For me I went with a P226 and 22lr upper so I can shoot multiple calibers from the same gun its awesome but a full sized gun so probably a bit large for your wife.

My Harrington & Richardson Sportsman .22 LR, made in 1933. I recommend similar.
