Hey guys,
Are there any bullet recommendations for a 223, 24" barrel, 1 in 9 twist? Should I be looking at lighter 40 gr, or 55gr, or heavier. I think with a 1 in 9 twist a 55 gr shoudl be ok?? I'm also unsure of bullet type. Will need a hunting round for coyotes, but also something for target/sight in and gophers. I've heard some concern around FMJ ricochet. What's everyone using? I hope to shoot a few coyotes and hopefully save some hides. Please let me know. I was at Cabela's and looked at everything for 30minutes and couldn't decide. Federal, Winchester, Remington??? Heard winchester white box id decen for the price, but difficult to find??

I believe mine is a 1:9, and I am getting good results with 55gr pills out to 100 yards ... Have not had hte opportunity to stretch it out any further yet though :(

1-12" is perfect for 55gr bullets and 1-9" is perfect with slightly heavier 60-63gr bullets.
If you can find it try Hornady 223 Rem 60gr TAP-FDP. It's a defense load but it's extremely accurate and features a bullet which expands readily (a 60gr V-Max, I guess). This ammo regularly produces 1" 5shot groups at 100m with AR15s !

My favorite reloading varmint bullets are Hornady 60gr V-Max (for performance) and Berger Flat Base Varmint 60gr (for accuracy).
The Berger bullets are not as explosive as the V-Max but they are often much more accurate and come in 55gr, 60gr and 63gr so you can experiment to find the perfect bullet for your rifle.

I usually shoot 53-77gr in my 9 twist. Should be able to find something suitable in that range. I mainly shoot 60gr Nosler BT handloads in mine

I reload 55gn Nosler Ballistic Tips with extreme accuracy. I have tried the V-max bullets by Hornady and they are good but not as accurate for myself in my 700
1-9" twist barrell. Either bullet will give you great accuracy with devastating effects, especially on gophers:D

Mine has a 1-9 twist and with the winchester 45gr pills are plenty accurate enough for coyotes. It does seem to shoot better with 55gr+. 62gr is the heaviest I've tried with golf ball destroying accuracy at 100 yards.

I have used .68 grain Hornady bullets quite successfully with my 1 in 9 twist Savages. .60 grain work very very well.
