Which .308 mags fit best in a Cadex Field strike?

I have 2x 10rd Accurate mags and 1x MDT 10rd metal mag. Both sit low/ loose causing jams or the bolt misses rounds completely. I can make them work, but I plan on buying 2 more mags soon and want to make sure I get the best ones for this chassis. It's a Remington 700 5r .308.

These mags ran perfectly in my MDT lss, KRG Bravo, and 2x HS precision stocks that I installed magpul DBM kits into. Its kind of a bummer. I was really excited about this chassis. It is otherwise absolutely amazing.

Any suggestions or advice?

Reach out to cadex, something is wrong with the chassis if accurate mags have issues (FedEx sells the chassis with them)

That's what I thought too. I did contact them. I called today after not hearing back from an email I sent a week ago as well as a PM on cgn. They said to get better mags and offered the correct specs for mags. He said the MDT and Magpul mags were out of spec (I never mentioned using magpul, only MDT/ metal and accurate.)

Before I sold my MDT lss chassis I used it for both my .308 5r and then my sps .223. The metal mags fit well and worked perfectly in that, but the .223 polymer mags fit loose. MDT sent a replacement mag catch kit with 3 sizes and a pilot pin that made it a 3 minute installation and once I had the correct catch installed it ran perfectly.

This is great advice for my clients on the firing line. I have suggested buying a couple of EACH brand of magazine and running all kinds of tests at your home gun range....

Thanks for these suggestions and links!

Myself and another person had feeding issues with our Cadex Chassis in rem 700,s and we were using AI mags. .I contacted Cadex and they discovered our magwells were out of spec. We both received new magwells from Patrice Picard at Cadex (excellent service) and that fixed the problem.

But did you tell them you tried accurate mags? I don't know if you bought the chassis new or used, but new, it comes with 1 accurate mag, and if you buy more mags from cadex, they send you accurate mags.

Reach out to Patrice on here, he's very stand up, I'm sure he will help you out

I read about that on an old thread here. I emailed Patrice and sent him a PM on here over a week ago. Maybe he is on holidays or busy.

When I called, Im not sure if I talked to Patrice or someone else, but they said no such thing (replacement magwell) is available for me and my mags were out of spec. I told him I was using Accurate mags and even asked if those are the mags they sell and they said no and that I need better ones. (I thought they came with accurate mags to buy wasnt sure)

He did mention Magpul a couple times during our conversation and I had to correct him that I wasn't using Magpul mags. I wonder if it was a miscommunication and he thought I was trying to run the polymer magpul and MDT mags. My old .223 MDT poly mags were loose in my lss and MDT sent the mag latches to correct it.

I know I was as clear as I could be about the Accurate mags. I know they're good lol, one is autographed by Hungry!!!

I got the chassis second hand in like new condition but without any mags.

Unfortunately I've had trouble feeding 308s with the 12 rounder from MDT.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that the mags you get from Cadex have the feed lips re-shaped, so they are improved over the original Accurate Mag. You might want to check into this.

The Accurate Mag supplied with my rifle feeds 100 percent reliably in my Cadex BTW.

I have not tried the AI mags yet, but I have a few and must make a point of it soon.

Oh ya... I have had Accurate Mags jam rounds because they get wedged into the feed lips... so it would seem the angle is not right.

If you're failing to pick up a round in the mag (as the mag is sitting to low) there's probably an issue with the mag catch being too short. I've run numerous Accurate mags, every incarnation of MDT mag (12 rounder with and without binder plate, 10 rounder, etc) and Magpul mags in 5 different MDT chassis and one stock with Stiller DBM running .308 and 6 Creedmoor and there are no issues provided the mag catch holds the mag up at the right height. The only issue I ever had was when I swapped a Defiance Deviant Elite into an older ESS that had a Rem 700 in it before, I had to slightly file down the mag catch as the mag sat too high. No such issues in any of my ACCs. All my mags run in all my rifles.

Telling you to get better mags is a pretty weak attempt at cs.

I can get it running. I invited Bubba over last night and found some thick foil tape (more like sheets of heavy foil with a strong adhesive) I lined the front inside wall of the magwell wuth 2 layers. This gives it a bit more friction and holds the front of the mag up a bit higher and allows it to cycle more reliably. The silver lining to the story (no pun intended) is that once I got the idea I added some to the rear of a crappy aftermarket mini 14 mag and it fits nice and tight and seems to cycle now as well! Bonus.

I do suspect either the catch is too short (exact same problem as when I ran poly mags in my mdt and it worked perfectly once I installed a new catch) Or the magwell is slightly long letting the front of the mag sit too low. There seems to be about 1/8" to 1/4" up and down play with an empty mag installed. If my next range trip goes fine with the tape I might just leave it at that. We shall see.

As far as I know there are no magwell sleeves for .308, correct?

I dont want to bad mouth Cadex or their product. Last Time I emailed Patrice for installation instructions with torque specs he sent me a .pdf almost immediately. I know Cadex make some of the best stuff out there. I'm sure there was some miscommunication if they are selling these chassis with Accurate mags. Would have been nice to get an email back though. However, since I bought it used they dont really owe me anything I suppose.

My sister and I run PMags in our chassis without issues. I also have an Accurate Mag that works without issue. These are with Savage actions. Does your magwell have a plastic insert?

I can vouch for this smooth operation because I’m standing over the shooters as they: smoothly and quickly run that bolt OR fumble with the magazine feed system by short stroking and / or varying the speed at which they cycle that bolt. Neither too fast or too slow , but very deliberate is what I’ve witnessed all these years as a Match Director, quite often the laughter causes a broken rib!

And then there are those who say they can top up their internal box magazines fast enough for the 200m Rapid Follow Up Match......

All great fun! Hope Patrice gets you fixed up soon!

I'd just keep after them, if I were you. You paid for a chassis that runs with AICS mags and they should make things right for you. I've heard good things about their cs in the past so hopefully this is just a misunderstanding and they get you up and running soon without having to leave foil tape in your chassis, haha.

Well, I did some experimenting last night. I got the MDT mag and 1 accurate mag running well (mostly. Mdt 100%, Accurate 90%- it sometimes jams or misses the second last round and sometimes binds on the way into the chamber. I just have to pull back slightly and push forward to chamber it.)

The other Accurate mag though... I need to go back to school. I'm embarrassed. This mag has no binder plate. I feel dumb lol. I missed it and after reading more last night I figured it out. I got it running much better and at least now I know why it was working so poorly. I should have really known to look for that. To be fair, it ran fine in my other chassis. Despite that, after playing with the feed lips and the spring it works well enough with just the odd jam.

I'm very impressed with the MDT mag and how nicely it runs now compared to the Accurate. Super smooth. The mag body is very stiff with a very smooth spring/ follower. It seems to be very well made. I still might buy a couple more brands just to see which work best, but I wouldn't mind another one of these.

After reading more on the subject, I now realize that it's not so unusual to have to adjust the lips. I'm still learning the ropes here and I appreciate all the help and advice. I'm used to mags just working out of the box like in my VZ58 or M305. It never occurred to me that adjustment would be necessary other than as a last resort.

Keep in mind that Shot Show is in play and Patrice will have been swamped preparing for it over the last few weeks. I'm sure he will be more responsive after the panic is over.

Yeah, I have heard only good things and my 1 other experience was great. I'm sure they are just swamped or I got lost in the mix. No worries, it seems to be working now.
