Ive been looking for 338 lapua precision rifle for a while now I am stuck between the sako TRG42 and the PGW Timberwolf. Both look pretty sweet, Ive had the chance to play with the sako and I do like it but I haven't seen the Timberwolf in person. One thing that keeps me leaning toward the sako is the price. For the difference in price I could pay for optics. The only 338 lapua I have owned is a Remington 700P so Everything Else is looking pretty good to me. I'm hoping to hear some opinions and experiences of why you like either rifle and If you think it will be worth the cash. I am open to suggestions of other rifles just not another remington

I have long been a fan of the TRG and one can never go wrong with choosing one. Having said that, the T-Wolf is a very nice rifle and the service from PGW is exceptional. My vote would be go Canadian, go PGW

What was the price on the TRG42 you were looking at?

I went with the stock Remington @$2400. Then swapped the stock out with a Macmillon a-5 adjustable. Bedded it and popped in a timney trigger. Finishing out @ less than 4K with sub Moa @1500 yards. I was skeptical of the stock barrel, but low and behold it was a shooter. I took my time breaking it the barrel. Just one more route you could go. The rifle is equipped with a NF nxs 50mm. I'll send pics if you like. As a note, I am still amazed by how good and accurate Macmillan was with their stock. It fit like a glove with only the mating of the stock to action needed video a bedding. Once the barrel was in later out i swapped it out with a Walter. Slightly better shooter now.

I have owned a TRG-22 and will say that they are very nice rifles with excellent triggers. The only problem with the TRG is that everything is proprietary and thus expensive.

Another option is the CADEX CDX-33, which is around the $5,500 mark to start. Comes with a CADEX trigger, custom action (stainless), Bartlein barrel.....etc.

At 5500$ you're into full custom territory from ATRS or Insite (or others)..... Just a thought. There's an MRAD on the EE as well (at least there was).....

timberwolf all the way, canadian company, easier to mount optics, im guessing that they would use imperial threads on their muzzle brake and its made in canada....if i had the $$$ thats the way i'd go. sako are nice rifles, but im not a fan of everything proprietary...

Proprietary stuff is dumb.

Custom build, Cadex, Sako, or DTA SRS.
I have a DTA and have shot some very impressive groups with it and if you're willing to spend some extra money you can buy caliber conversion kits for it and swap it over yourself in less than a minute. My rifle also maintains zero after removing and installing the barrel which makes cleaning a breeze.
I've never been a fan of PGW, I know a couple gunsmiths that have worked on their stuff who were far from impressed with what they saw once they looked closely at them.

You can't really go wrong with any of the rifles mentioned, it comes down to your budget and what you like the looks of the best. All will shoot around 1/2 moa with well developed handloads if you do your part.
