My birthday is rapidly approaching, and I'm wondering about a 45 ACP. So,, the question is... if it was "your" birthday, which one would you buy, and why?

Some want to know about budget... "it's a birthday!" .. get with the program!! Okay, seriously, best one under $1800, and also simply best, no limit....

thks

This year I already had 3 (three) birthdays and two more coming. Then again there is always Christmas...So its more of a question "when" rather than "what".

Oh and did you know you can buy your wife (or GF) beautiful handgun for her birthday too? If she doesn't like it its her problem, gift I am sure will be delieved with your best most sincere feelings coming right from your heart...

Girls like stainless or shiny chrome things by the way, just so you know.

Glock 21. The low bore axis makes for very comfortable shooting. The trigger's not great, but you get used to it. It's my favourite 45.

+1. If your hands are big enough to hold it comfortably that is...

I love my G21. The trigger does kinda suck but you get used to it quickly (at least I did). Glocks are simple to maintain and clean. Get an AA .22lr conversion and you can plink for cheap too!

1911 eh well the only one is a Gold Cup not really but it was one of my first and since then I had to sell it ( family commitment ) any way it shot so accurate and was always a looker so well made and when ever I was at the range most wanted to see it. I think I was in Love lol

Any way good luck let us know what you get and don't forget pics get the SS one hehehe

There is a beautiful NIB Colt lightweight Commander for sale in the EE. $700!

I can't believe no one has jumped on it.

Buy it. It will only work well with certain ammo. It will only be combat accurate.

You'll fall in love with it because it's a Colt and you'll never be able to explain why!

Ok budget about $1800. You want a .45ACP. Gotta be a 1911 (says I). Why a 1911? There is a balanced feel to a single stack 1911 that is hard to describe except to say it feels very comfortable and right when you hold it. I have other pistols but I'm glad I got the 1911 first as the benchmark to judge the others by. Get a nice Kimber or Para or S&W (with magwell if possible). Cost around 1500 with tax and shipping if you have to send away to P&D or TSE or one of the other good gunshops that advertise on this site. Spend a bit more on a good holster (I vote Blackhawk Serpa - $60.00) and definately buy extra mags $40 each and magholders (Blackhawk) at about $25 each. Any left over? Extra ammo.

If it were my birthday and I had the money I'd buy myself a Kimber Eclipse. I already own a few .45's but I can't find nothing as '###y' as the Eclipse, okay maybe the Springfield's version of a black stainless 1911. Anyhow, others you may want to consider may be the Sig P220, Para Ordnance SSP, STI Trojan/Ranger and the S&W 625 revolver. For the price you mentioned there's a lot of choices. You may even consider the S&W M&P in .45 ACP and use the balance for ammo or a reloading machine. Good luck and happy birthday.

Yeah, budget kinda plays a role.

In any case, the universal answer is 1911... 1911, 1911, 1911!

1911's have been surpassed by the newer "plastic" guns, IMHO. but if you must get one ... this is a real beauty!

check out the Springfield XD .45

You can't lose with a Glock 21sf ... williams arms .net has them with low (001) serial numbers

(The H&K Mark 23 might be out of your price range)

I owned a S&W 1911, first production, I had a ambi safety and a magwell, total, 1350.00 thisw is my IPSC handgun, more than 20 thousand round shoot with it, had to change the front sight for a Dawson precision one, eyes getting older...pretty accurate with my reload with 200 gr semi wad and frontier 200gr FP copper plate. All my load are doing major. Since i got that piece, I used Wilson buffer too. Last year , Bought my first Sig Sauer with a DAK trigger, excellent handgun, put around a thousand round on this one and keep asking for more, comfortable to shoot, accurate, and when you get use to the trigger, it is easy, the triggger keep getting better as I shoot the gun. Just add to it a Buffer technology recoil buffer, make the felt recoil lower, taht is my first feeling with that buffr change. Enjoy your bithday gift

Happy Gunny Birthday

Yes, there seems to be alot of 1911 support in this thread.
That good, they do draw a crowd. Of all the different makes/models
sugested, my votes go for the Sig GSR and the Kimber Warrior. I've had
and shot both and are top notch machines given your price range. The Sig
was SO accurate.
And apart from the 1911 world, the P220 is pretty much all that remains. .
This is my favorite pistol and others that have one will probably tell
you the same. They just don't die!(not that I want it too)

Smith and Wsson's 1911 also gets my vote. I have one and it is very accurate and reliable. I paid $1200 for mine.
