Trying to find the BC of the 77gr bullet used in IVI ammo issued to RCMP. Assuming it's similar-ish to Mk262 so would be either a Sierra 77gr Match King or Nosler 77gr Custom Competition. Any and all help appreciated!

I'm assuming this is the cartridge you're talking about: h ttps://bullits.ca/products/5-56-nato-full-box-of-ivi-2018-77gr-hpbt-bullets
I'm not really 100% sure, but if would be a betting man, they use Sierra 77gr HPBT Match Kings (cannelured) having a G1 BC=0.372 This bullet is also used in the Federal Gold Medal cartridge. Black Hills' Mk262 ammo also uses this bullet FYI.

Thanks. I just need the BC to work out a dope chart for a guy who has some. I'm also assuming it's the 77gr SMK but some of the Mk262 loads over the years have used the Nosler 77gr CC and they have a different BC. Realistically shouldn't make a big difference inside 500 yds.

I had access to the entire RCMP research in selecting their patrol carbine including the tests they did with different barrel length, different ammo (some factory and some custom loads), their ballistics at different distances and through different barriers. The selected 77 gr load is a Nosler bullet.

Via FOI/ATIP?

Bulk ammo, therefore uses cheap alternatives. Sierra would be the educated guess. Even if your right though, there's no way you duplicate powder. Almost certainly a bulk powder or blend not sold to the public.

Believe ultimate reloader did a series on duplicating US military ball. Some of the utube.

You'd be better off reverse engineering the BC by getting velocity, and elevation increases for given distances, using his rifle. Strelok Pro can do it IIRC.

Is there some reason you decided to not read the thread at all before replying?

Post-count ?

I used the information that BCSteve posted (that the bullet is the Nosler 77gr CC) and using that BC, his dope lined up out to 470 which was as far as we were pushing the carbines that day.

I'm late to the party but I can tell you whatever it is and very disappointingly my 700 in 223 does not shoot it worth ####. ;)
Neither does my other 700 in .308 with the issued .308 hornady tap 168 grains.

I'd recommend a 1:8 twist at least for the 77 grain, something faster than the 700 sps tactical.
