Which ACOG?

I own three - a TA31, TA33, and TA55A. I prefer the 33 and 55 simply for the much more gracious eye relief. Optically and functionally they are all stellar.

Aesthetically I prefer the classic TA31 with its reverse cantilever look but if I bought another I would go with a TA11.

I have TA31, TA11 and TA02

What platform are you using it for.

Reason I ask is the shorter eye relief is not an issue generally on AR platform when shooting nose to charging handle...or close to

The eye relief is actually a bit longer on the TA31 than what it states on paper

When I shoulder the TA31 and TA02 I never find my head position too far away because of eye relief issues . This is when you have the TA31 / TA02 in the classic position where there is room for rear BUIS

If you don't care about running BUIS then get a mount that moves the TA31 further back

Food for thought...Trijicon sells lots of TA31 ...more than TA11 according to their tech line

What the TA31 gives you over the longer eye relief TA11 is almost 30% more field of view . Considering it has a bit more mag, this is significant since generally you loose FOV as mag goes up

I seem to recall there someone on the web posted a gif showing the differences in FOV and the advantage of the TA31 is very noticable

Lastly the TA11 is a bit longer

I think if you are using it for 3 gun the TA11 would be a better choice . Only time I got messed up with the TA31 was shooting weak side first time...took me a while to get use to where to put everything !

Once you are use to the TA31 I think you will love it and the eye relief won't be an issue ( again, much of that can be solved with a mount that moves it over the BUIS location )

If I "needed" another ACOG for AR it will be a TA31

Lastly for anyone considering an ACOG : I have astigmatism now that makes all red dots like a odd shaped starburst. EOTECH is worst . That along with a 3X magnifier it becomes pretty distracting . This prompted me to buy my first ACOG and wouldn't you know it , the reticle is nice and crisp even with my crappy eyes

The TA11. That 3" eye relief makes it very functional from all sorts of shooting positions, snap the rifle up and there it is. I don't like eyebanging the TA31 and the 33 feels like looking through a straw. I have used the 11 out to 600 yards with no trouble at all.

TA33 for the win! I currently have the green horseshoe reticle, and it's my favorite over ALL the others I've tried. Donut I like the least. Chevron is okay too. Horseshoe rocks. :)

I have owned many different ACOGs (TA31Fs, TA33, 648). All of them have a purpose. The 648 has the nicest field of view and the ability to adjust the fibre optic exposure was very nice. But it's a beast, expensive and very hard to find.

The TA31 line are nice and have a decent field of view. Of all the ACOGs (or any optic for that matter), the 31 has the worst eye relief. This can be an issue depending on your setup. Running an A1 or A2 stock and a BUIS make using the 31 troublesome.

The TA33 is really a jack of all trades. It has amazing eye relief. The specs are way off on the box. The eye relief and box are simply amazing. I have run my TA33 sideways, upside down, under obstacles, and using the BAC, it's just like a red dot. I never lose sight of the chevron. Compared to the TA31, it has better eye relief, but less magnification and less field of view but is also lighter.

I would conclude that if you are "running and gunning", learn to master the BAC, and you would be better served with the TA33. If you will be more stationary, or haven't mastered the BAC, the TA31's bigger field of view with suit you better. Glass on all ACOGs is amazing. You need to also consider the reticle. I have owned donuts, cross hairs, chevrons in red, green and amber. My personal preference is the chevron. The top is a very precise point for accurate shots. For closer up work, the chevron is very quick to paint the target. As for colour, green is head and shoulders above red. And red is far better than amber.

I didn't mention the TA11. For me, it was too heavy. It has amazing field of view, and better eye relief than the 31, but not as good as the 33. It's magnification was also middle of the road. In the end, weight and eye relief was most important to my type of shooting.
