I know with everybody and thier brother making atvs today which one would be the best bang for the buck.I an not really looking for anything bigger than a 400cc and it doesn't have to be a 4x4 as most of my hunting is done on the fringes of agricultural land.I know there are brands like Honda,Yamaha,Polaris,Arctic Cat,Bombardier,Suzuki,Kawasaki,John Deere,even SIR is carrying the Kolpin and Canadian Tire is carrying the Baja Motorsport.which do you think is the best bang for the buck?:confused:
 
I am looking at the same thing. My brother just went through the process and decided on a Honda. He didn't want a Honda in the beginning because, as he said, "every guy and his dog has one". After research and talking to people he decided on the Honda after all. The Hondas do have excellent resale value, and they are very reliable. I'd stay away from the Canadian Tire and other Chinese ones that are on the market. The last thing you need is a mechanical failure in the middle of nowhere. I think Honda makes a TRX250, and that would be nice for a basic 2x4.
 
I just ordered a CTC "BaJa" I will put a winch on the front and it should be good to go. Less than 1/2 of the price of a name brand model. Time will tell if it is reliable. I figure its worth a gamble. my $0.02

Is that the camaflouge 250.
 
I ride a Polaris but the Bombardier seems to be the beat out there right now.They are out performing all the rest in most tests.They are no really bad makes.
 
bom's are nice but i think there was a frame issue with them not to long ago
yammys become gutless after about a year and a half and suzi's have a tendency to bust shafts on heavy loads or rough mud polaris supposed to be fairly decent and kawsaki is starting to beef up there platform as well
 
I was just on Baja's web site (the Canadian Tire brand). They only come with a 90 day engine and 90 day frame warranty. Seems kind of weak when you can't back your product up.

Signguy, what is up with the Suzukis? Can you give some more details please?
 
I've had very good luck with my 300 Kawasaki.

My suggestion is whichever dealer will provide the best service to you. I personally prefer honda and yamaha. Both have 350-400cc bikes. I HATE POLARIS- they make a good sled, but quads NO!! Suzuki would be alright. I personally will look at the 500 Vinson for my next bike. Arctic Cat uses either Suzuki motors for the smaller cc quads, and Kawi for their large quads.
 
Is it just me, or all the new quads built from the ground up with plastic???

(including the kodiak450....... not impressed)


Kawasaki and suzuki are the same thing. Different looking plastic,same suspension frame and engines. With that said, go for the best deal on a Kawisaki, Suzuki (Kawizuki) if thats what you are looking for.

I am not sure about the suspension/frame on the AC but the engine is a suzuki motor which is in the kawi and zuki.

Honda, all the way. They may be expensive, and break your back after a long days ride but they're in my opinion, the most reliable quads ever built. I have a '92 350 4X4 and it still running strong, and believe me, it hasn't been driven easy.

Do lots of research.. I just bought an new ATV a month ago myself, and found a lot of things to think about.

Decide what matters to you:

  • Honda has very little clearance, and a straight rear axel, but great reliability reputation.
  • Polaris has a very interesting "lock and go" accessory system, and the snow plow attachment is the slickest of them all
  • Yamaha has the independent rear suspension, and lots of clearance if you need it, also with great reviews on reliability and rider comfort.
  • Boms and Kawas I don't know much about because there was no dealer nearby. No point in me buying one.
  • I agree, stay away from the off-brands.

Apparently you haven't heard of the rincon.It does have independent rear suspension and is one of the best handling 4x4 quads made.

And you did leave out the fact that only honda has a real automatic transmission(actually two) instead of a belt drive.

And since this is a hunting and shooting site,most of us will haul loads on our quads.With independent rear suspension,the ground clearance is reduced as load is added.This is not the case with a solid rear axle.
 
If I were buying a new quad now it would be between the Honda and the Bombardier. However I would be hard pressed not to buy the Honda. We still have an 84 that's been to hell and back and still going strong. My buddy just bought a new 500 honda a little while ago and is very impressed with this bike. I would definatly not buy a Polaris, sure they have a great ride and lots of power, but they are nothing but trouble. My buddy is steady replacing bushings, bearings, cluthes, motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, cv axles, ignition system and the list goes on, the polaris isn't even 2 years old!!

Go get a HONDA.
 
Well, if i got this right, Bomb is buildig/will soon be building quads and snowmobiles in Mexico. SO #### THEM! :mad:

I'm big on supporting local/canadian companies, but i wont support a company that ####s it's employess over for a bit more profit.
