which barrel contour?

17A or Straight Blank (1.25" from Breech to Muzzle)

If you can make weight with a straight blank I would go that route personally. Both of my 1.25" barrels shot teeny tiny groups at distance, while my Heavy Palma has only been a 2nd/3rd place barrel.

Agree, the heavier the better. My F-Class rifles have 1.25 inch blanks. I prefer to have a shorter bbl than sacrifice much in the taper. Having said that i am in the process of getting a new bbl for my 7MM that will taper from 1.25 (first 7 inches) to 1.0 at the muzzle, I am not sure, but I woudl guess this will not make much of a difference in accuracy, but I will be able to tell after I have shot it.

Finally, for my current rifles I use a barrel block becuase of the heavy bbl. This adds alot of wt, I would love to hear what others who use heavy untapered barrels do to support the bbl.

Just my opinion, but if you're going the unturned blank route block bedding is the way unless you have a very thick walled, longer tenon, heavy action to hang 30" + barrels on. I'm seeing a lot of Rem 700's repeaters with heavy 26" barrels completely free floated and they are having success.

ATM , I'm building a 6.5x55 heavy varmint barrel 1.25 for 5" that tapers to .900 at 30" on a Rem 700 L/A, Anschutz prone stock with the barrel bedded in front of the recoil lug for 4". Going to experiment with how much barrel bedding gives me what I need. If it don't dance I'll see about putting a barrel block instead, but not sure if I can fit one in that stock the way I'd prefer. If I do it will be a custom designed block.
