I need new hunting boots. Would like to stay under $200. I have cold weather boots so these are mostly for archery season. Think lots of miles, lots of hills, lots of cactii. Waterproof would be nice to keep my feet dry from early morning dew. I would like am 8" boot and it has to come in a size 13. Any reccomendations?

Cabelas bargain cave meindles. My dad picked up a pair for 149 last week. That's a steal for that price. Been wearing real meindles for a few years and there is nothing better.

JB Goodhue Oil riggers in a soft toe. Old style vibram sole, high top, leather, comfy. Last pair I had lasted me 4 years of tundra work. Haven't found a boot I liked more to be honest. Only replaced them because I wore through a toe.

I use Meindl's. Used to have Danners and they are tough, but they are not in the same league as Meindl. Meindl's are exceptionally lightweight, form fitting and comfortable. They are athletically designed and meant for heavy use. Danners are a big heavy sole stitched to a thick leather upper. They will last forever but cannot compete for long hikes over difficult terrain.

Hanwags. Not 8" but the best backcountry boots I have used. If you want the 8" for protection higher up on the leg get a pair of gators.

EDIT - the Hanwag might be close to 8" now that I think about it but I dont my boots with me.

I have gone through a number of Danners and have two pair with 200 and 400 gms of Thinsulate. Then shed the early morning dew, and they can be had with 1000 gms of thinsulate.

The Meindels I had (only one pair) were a poor fit as they sold one boot and used inserts to accomodate foot width.

The Danner Acadians fit great in a size 13B.

Go to Danner's web site.

I prefer the stiffer boot on the meindles over my hangwags, but they are good boots too

I second the gaitors. They help keep your pants/boots dry and keep the snow out. I wear mine all the time guiding and deer/predator hunting in the winter. OR makes a great set and I ordered a pair of Kuiu gators today.

I just got a pair of Meindl Canada Pros from AJ Brooks and they are very light, stiff, comfortable and expensive. The older you get the better your boots should be.

Where is a good place to a pair of gaiters that are quiet and tough?
