Just wondering if there are proven benefits between brands (Remington, Wincester, federal etc.) and types of 22 LR cartridges for target shooting.
Given the same type of cartridge like a solid point hi-velocity they all seem to have the same specs. as far as muzzle velocity, etc.
This makes it seem that there may be no diference except price?

It really depends on your particular firearm; I've had some 22s that really LIKED the cheap stuff, and would group very accurately with it, but the exact same ammo in another one of my 22s would either jam or group horribly. The only way to know is to buy a couple of 50-round boxes, and try it.

Most .22 are ####e, you'll still experience several misfires and jams.

With my Ruger 10/22 Carbine I like to use Remington HyperVelocity .36 grain hollow points (1500 fps)...there are around 10-20 different brands, bullet weight, bullet design, and velocities to choose from. Get a couple of boxes of each and see what your gun likes the most.

Federal Gold Medal .22 lr are probally the best.

For my 10/22, it likes cheapies. I used to only use Dynapoints from Walmart, as those worked best out of the ammo I had tried (about 10 different brands). Now I realize that it loves Winchester Power Points. MUCH better accuracy than before.

But as mentioned, each gun is different, so buy a box of each and try em out!

Is it best to avoid the lead target bullet in a 10/22.I read somewhere that the lead debris contributes to frequent jamming.

I use Eley Practice and wish I could afford Tenex, let alone justify it! I should be that good a shot. But, as stated, it does depend upon the individual firearm. Having said that, bear in mind that high-velocity can make it more difficult to shoot timed and rapid fire due to dealing with the increased recoil. If you can find a standard velocity cartridge that the gun likes, you are better off IMO.
