I'll be in need of good BUIS that will need to fit under the ocular of an Spector DR with Tenebraex flip cover. Would appreciate if I could pop it up while the Elcan still mounted.

Any ideas or experiences ?

How exactly would you get it to flip up, while concurrently mounting UNDER the ocular lens? You may be looking for an item that can't possibly exist, unless I'm not understanding what you're trying to accomplish.

Also, using the irons through the optic is going to result in a slightly magnified front iron sight. It's really weird.

BUIS are there so if your optic gets catastrophically destroyed, you remove it and then use the BUIS.

Magpul MBUS Pro irons fold flat enough to sit under the Elcan though.

Now I know that no BUIS are designed to flip up while the optic is on the rifle.

Thanks

I have used KAC, Troy, Magpul, Midwest Ind, and a few others. They all fit under that I have tried.

Further to note, any BUIS that are far enough behind the sight to flip up while mounted are going to be way to far back to get a comfortable cheek weld with out risking contact with the sight on a semi frequent basis.

Do you run your rifles stock collapsed or extended?
This will determine wether or not you'll even be using iron sights with the specter.
If you run it extended, you won't have enough room for irons as the optic will have to be in the rear most position to maintain a useable eye relief.

Concur with the above. Great glass but the eye relief sucks. No way can I mount a BUIS.

In all reality though, do you really need to mount irons on a gun that has an optic with back ip irons built on it?
I'm not saying it's a pointless endeavor as my rifle that sports the specter will probably get a set of KAC or magpul pro's, but do you REALLY need irons on the gun? If the optic goes down, it's an etched reticle, unlike a red dot and ask yourself, what are the odds your specter is going to see such significant wear or damage that it'll break? Hell most guys I know cringe at the sight of my DR getting tossed around on my rifle.

I think it was Kyle defoor who spoke about people and their insistent need to put irons on every gun. Yeah they're great insurance but not at the sacrifice of proper eye relief and thus, proper shooting techniques. I personally run the stock on this rifle 1 click out from fully collapsed so I still achieve good eye relief on both 1x & 4x so I can comfortably mount irons on it, if you run the gun much further out either ditch the irons or get a different optic.
Like all good things, they come with their own set of compromises.

Light_fighter and mebiuspower said everything there is to say.

One time, at band camp, my eotech batteries went dead during a stage; I flipped up my magpul buis and finished. My score sucked but when the cardboard doesn't shoot back wgaf?

The Specter has too short of eye relief to mount irons behind it and still have the optic mounted in the correct position to use it.
Just skip the BUIS, the Specter is a tank, it won't fail you under any situation you find yourself in at the gun range unless you're really abusing your equipment, if it somehow does you probably have bigger problems.
If you like irons so much that you feel you must have them then I would buy some quality fixed irons and just run irons, you don't need both.

I agree with onetwentyish, I have no issues with my DR and KAC 600m sight. I personally like the look of them with the BUIS more than without but to each his own.

Sure, if you like running your stock fully collapsed with your cheek on the charge handle it will work but why would you run BUIS when you just spent $2000+ on an optic that already has BUIS and is so robust that if it were to break you've probably broken more than just your optic.
Plus, the DR is so heavy why would you want to add even more weight to it with more sights you won't use?
