Looking to start checking ogive instead of measuring off the tip, which one do you like, hornaday?
Thanks!

I use the Hornaday and it works well for me. Some folks don't like that it uses aluminum comparator inserts. But seriously, if your using enough force that your going to deform the aluminum insert your doing it wrong.

Truth be know, you can use just about anything as a comparator to measure cartridge length as long as it's consistent. Doesn't really matter where on the ogive you measure if your always using the same bullet.

Ogive dimensions can change substantially between brands as well but I agree it's definitely a better place to measure than inconsistent tips.

I've got the Hornady as well. I bought a Sinclair originally which has stainless inserts.....Not very handy when some of them are larger than the actual bullet you're supposed to be measuring. Maybe if you want to measure case length with bullets seated LOL

Get the the hornady headspace gauge set at the same time. They really should make a combo set.

Yeah, both inserts can be handy but I now use a Redding Instant Indicator die instead of the Hornady headspace insert. The die is in my Redding T-7 press, set up and ready to go with a marker set at the maximum shoulder length. If it is over that then it gets a run through the Forster shoulder bump die in the next station. I could (and maybe should) use the Redding Instant Indicator for measuring bullet seating depth as well, but it isn't quite as straight forward as using the Hornady Bullet Comparator.

if you are going with Hornady then get the set with 14 inserts, I didn't and it is hard to find one or two to buy separately when buy a new gun

I’ll have to check this out, I have the T7 also, great press!
