If you were to have these 3 pistols only , and all 3 pistols had a different caliber between them (9mm, 40s&w and 45 auto) which caliber to which gun would you choose,

full size glock (ie 17, 21, 22)

H&K USP

SIG either 226 or 220 although no 220 9mm (no euro mag release)

lets see your opinions
thanks

Hmmm...interesting. I won't say 3 because there are 4 different caliber were considered a must. They are 9mm, .45 auto, .357 mag and a .22. But there are tons of debate about which gun for which caliber and once the can of worms opened and won't kick into an end.

Trigun

HK USP in .40: it's the only gun of the three that was specifically designed for the .40S&W caliber. The other two are converted 9mm guns.

Glock 17 in 9mm: this is the caliber for which Glock was originally designed and kabooms with 9mm Glocks seem to be far less frequent than with other calibers (although they still can happen).

Sig P220 in .45: by order of elimination. It's a good gun too, although some recently made units have extraction issues.

It's pretty simple really....

BHP 9mm

Glock 22 .40 S&W

1911 in .45ACP

Course there'd be the requisite .22 conversion unit for the 1911.... ;)

Would have to agree with you (except for the Glock of course), but it seems that the fellow has his choices narrowed down already.

well im ive just sorta played with these options in my head for the past week, i know the 22 is a must, and the 357 , and hell a 44 as well.

i like capp325 said the usp in the 40 , and the glock 17 , just because they were built up on that caliber,

however i have sorta been pushed for a sig as well. but i cant decide on which caliber is the better to get, and since i dont have a 45 yet . was thinking sig in 45 .. and for all your 1911 fans ... i do plan on getting one of them in the future. but i can pretty much have all 3 of these for the price of a top 1911 done up. so that will have to wait.

if you wanted sig. which would be the better caliber to get ?

Yeah, but here's my alternate choice:

9mm............ 1911

.40.............. 1911

.45.............. 1911

With a .38 Super conversion for the 9mm, a 10mm conversion for the .40 and a .22 conversion for the .45................ :p

Well what do you want?? Never mind what other people have or think you should have. What have you handled and shot to date? What feels best for you?
I always thought Glocks were butt ugly, then I shot my buddies G22 at the range and it was a great fit for me. So I picked one up, and I love shooting it. A year later, I picked up a G37 (love shooting it too), not because I believed there was a "existant" or "non-existant" problem with .45 ACP, I was just intrigued with the ballistics that pretty much matched the venerable .45 ACP , to me thats cool. And of course, my first love has always been the .44 mag, I have a Ruger SBH 7.5" barrel in stainless. My next purchase should be a .45 ACP from Para. I say should because you never what will pop up in between!!

No the SIG P226 was too. In fact it lasts longer than any of the others mentioned.
Sig P226 was originally designed for 9mm. They switched from folded sheetmetal to forged stainless slides when the .40 was introduced, but otherwise it's the same gun.

Actually SIG spend alot of time and R&D money designing the slides for the P226. It is the most durable one out there.

thanks for everyones input., holly 1911 fans,
i will have to do my 1911 sorting through later so hold your opinions till then i would love to hear them, ive shot the glocks and usps and love them they were my first 2 choices for me, they just fit , however i saw a sig 220 and likes how it fit in my hand, i havent shot it, so thats why im on the what caliber scenerio. im sold on glock 17, and a usp 40,

and from what i read the sig 226 had the slide problems with euro models, not that many north america models. ( dont quote me on this ) but just like any gun can fail, look at glock and im sure hk have had there issues nothing perfect.

and since then sig has fixed this, but imho you can only fix a broken leg to a point, and thats why i was asking is the 220 better than the 226 platform (ie is one better than the other)

oh and i also read the navy 226 was the only one to ever get for 226, because all the internals are completely different, can anyone comment on the "navy" edition ...

Interesting that you mention this. If they are the most durable out there, how come the U.S. Navy and Swiss police experienced slide fractures with their P226 and P229s?

The Swiss Police don't use 40S&W. In any event, if they were using Glocks or HKs they would have experienced more failures and quicker. I typically get 3X as many rounds through a 40 P226 than any other type of gun.
