Correct me if this topic has been beaten to death with it's own limbs, but I'm debating on which AR style rifle to purchase after Christmas bonus time. I've seen Dlask's rifles and the finish is great, but haven't heard about their performance. Yes I know they're not 100% manufactured in Canada, but "Made in Canada" is good enough for me.

On the other side we have Alberta Tactical Rifle, who I know make all their own parts and have a good reputation here in AB. I've looked and they seem alright, not the finish of the Dlask DAR, but looks aren't the point (spoken tounge in cheek).

So what do you think? For the $1500 - $2000 range for AR style rifles, what's your $0.02?

Or should I just say F-it and buy American? :p

Nothing against "Made in Canada", but why would you limit yourself to such arbitrary criteria?

No problem with either.
I would really hesitate to call either a clone though.
Pretty respectable rifles, to each their own.

I didn't add to the poll, because I want to see the results as well.

What parts of the Dlask ARs aren't made in Canada?

As far as "Made in Canada", I myself would prefer one just for the fact of "Made in Canada".

I gotta say that atr's rifles are beauties, Alberta Tacticals recievers are made out of one piece billet aluminum not cast. Not trying to talk down Dlask as ive never handled there product. Have fun with whatever you choose.

I was just trying to cover my a$$ with the terminology. lol

I have read reviews and handled a few of the US big names and they are all in the price range, but I want something with a Canadian legacy. Why should I give my money to the US? It's a recession (sort of) and I believe in keeping my money in the country when I can.

As everyone is saying, ATR handily. All the dlask lowers I have seen I would call an AR clone. The ATR ones have some design improvements.

If you are in YYC, you should ping them to see them first hand. Hopefully they have a regular AR there for comparison.

I purchased one of the first ATR lowers he made. I was even lucky enough to get in before Rick finalized pricing, so realized a discount there. Rick was top notch by honouring that price and certainly engendered a lot of positive customer feeling to create a repeat customer! As for the AR receiver, absolutely the nicest AR I own and I would consider it a custom, rather than a mass produced AR, whether cast or even machined. They deserve better LPK's than the DPMS though.:)

I think Dlask is offerring a complete rifle for $15-1600. Anyone know what ATR has a basic rifle priced at? Flat-top, 16" bbl .556?

Looking at what they have on their web site... and depending on how you define basic, the prices range around $2,750.00 for complete rifles. I suspect they have more models available than just the ones listed on the site however.

At the risk of making the waters a bit muddy, we can not claim that ours are 100% made in Canada. I say this as we do at this time have to depend on some US suppliers for the parts we do not build such as bolts, charge handles and LPKs.
Xman, I agree the DPMS LPKs are not the finest, but what we have had good access to. Hopefully we can work with someone while at SHOT Show to help improve the LPK quality.

kenjuudo It is hard to price custom rigs as everyone wants something different, at this time we really don't have a "basic" AR rifle as each 1 is made to a clients spec.
I imagine if we were to spec out a rifle as close as possible to a Dlask rifle we would be only a couple hundred $$ more.
I did not vote as I did not want to skew the poll.

News for y'all - everthing but Colt is a clone

The trademark "AR15" or "AR-15" is registered to Colt Industries, which maintains that the term should only be used to refer to their products. Other manufacturers make AR-15 clones marketed under separate designations, although colloquially these are sometimes also referred to by the term AR-15.

A billet receiver is not comparable to a forged receiver as an apple is not a pear. DLASK makes fine AR-15's as does ATR.

The AR was invented by Armalite. Hence the 'AR'.
Everything else is a Clone, including Colt:stirthepot2:

And then you have Eugene and his Factory Rifle.....some will argue the Knights Armament is the True Original. All others are clones............

...got to keep the Kool-Aid kids on their toes:)

Dlask arms uppers and lowers are made from forgings. This is a considerably lower cost process and can produce some very fine AR15 uppers and lowers.

ATRS are machined from billet aluminum. While much more expensive process, ATRS now has much more control on the overall quality of the product. They are aimed specifically at discerning customers that want something more then just another AR15 lower. Cosmetics and final tolerances are usually better.

As to which lower receiver is inherently better, the answer is neither. The two lowers are aimed at different customer groups.

Hey I like that, I think that is about the best analogy I have heard of the differences between lowers.
